OVO Charge app stopped communicating with my Hyundai (Hyundai Ioniq 5).

After a successful Anytime charge a few nights ago, the Charge app has stopped talking to my car (last update almost 3 days ago).

I’ve now removed my car from the app (under devices) and trying to re-add it. I enter Make / Model / Year of Manufacture but the “Continue >” button does nothing.

Any suggestions other than the “switch to Octopus” I’ve had on other forums?

Hey @2Long2Charge @Mattb555 @TomThumb

Sorry to hear a few of you are being impacted by this. I did pop this back to the Charge Anytime team for any further advice who’ve said firstly, thank you for letting them know that you’re experiencing issues and limitations with the OVO Charge Anytime Beta Pilot, your feedback is much appreciated.

They’ve asked that if any of you who are impacted check for car updates, software packages and that the cars are sharing location data etc. Also, if you have a compatible charger instead that you can link to Charge Anytime they’ve also recommended this.

Our engineering team are working hard to try and improve the quality of service for all of our Beta Pilot participants. Because this is a Pilot however, there are issues and limitations that we may not be able to resolve quickly, and we are therefore unable to provide you with any further updates for the time being.

If you feel that the impact of the issues and limitations that you are experiencing outweighs the value that you are getting from the Charge Anytime add-on, then they have suggested that you can exit the Charge Anytime beta for the time being; until such time as we are able to further improve the service.

If you do wish to exit the Beta Pilot, you can do so at any time by taking the following steps:

  • Open the OVO Charge Anytime app
  • Click on the "Account" tab in the bottom right
  • Click on the User icon in the top left
  • Click the "Delete account" link
  • Select a reason for leaving and click "Continue"

Your app account will now be deleted and there will be no further connection or interaction between your car and the OVO system. You will still be credited for any smart charging that you have done up to this point. Thank you once again for your participation in the OVO Charge Anytime beta.

Do let us know how you’re all getting on.

It seems that it is more challenging for OVO than I would hope to solve my issue, and I am not sure on the timescale or even if they can.

To solve my charge issue I have changed chargers so that OVO can connect via this rather than the car.

It’s working great again now, and the charger has some improvements from my old one. Not that I would have upgraded.

Should take about 6 months to recover my costs, not ideal but at least I feel better getting the lower price electric.

Thank you all for your help.

I'm in a rental so fitting a charger is an investment in someone else's property (which I'm doing enough of already! :-D)

It's disappointing because it's been OK for 4 months and now this.

I’ve also started to get issues with charge anytime paired with a Hyundai, mines a Kona tho.

Charge app status saying car Not plugged in.

To late to do anything last nite, so left it hooked up on the off chance it would sort itself out, but still showing as not plugged in this morning.

Maybe Hyundai/Kia have a current issue with their api or something, but we will never know. Kia have advised me to send an enquiry via their Kia Connect web form...my gut tells me that's going to be a black hole.

Out of curiosity I connected directly to KIAs API and it is showing me the plugged in status just fine.

I really think this issue is actually with OVO and whatever third party service they are using as an intermediary to KIAs own API (someone previously mentioned Enode).

I love how it's so easy to just palm us off with "oh well you're beta" and "you can leave if you want to" .. Great customer service that is. Engineering should be talking to the supplier if that's Enode and asking if there is something up with their connection to KIA..

Just for troubleshooting I decided to delete my Hyundai vehicle from the charge app & re add it.

Re linked my Kona & Bluelink account back in to the charge app & it’s still reporting the car is

Not plugged in, the charge app still reports the current SOC, so it is definitely communicating in parts.

I also agree with @2Long2Charge the approach from ovo "you can leave if you want to" .. Great customer service that is.

I am also suspecting glitches with the OVO to Kia interface.

My Kia Sportage has stopped scheduled smart charging over the past 2 evenings.

Tonight I actioned an urgent charge on the OVO app and the command was promptly received by my car. However, the OVO app then reported the car as not connected for charging whilst the car continued to charge.

On the next OVO app refresh the status was then reported as smart charging being in progress and then after a few minutes smart charging was stopped.

In comparison, I cannot fault communication between the Kia app and the car for any of the functionality.

What a shame that I will have to leave OVO because of this. It was working out OK until just under a week ago.

Sad to point the finger at Kia when it's not Kia.  For the record, Kias API returns the correct vehicle Lat/Long, it's plugged in status etc.

I don't have a fast charger at home and I'm not a heavy user so the smart charge during the day and overnight at lower cost was a good solution for me. Without being able to use OVO Charge I'm better off with another supplier.

Hyundai kona ev model 2025. This shows on hyundai bluelink that it is connected to charger at home. However in the ovo app shows unplugged.  Have tried for four days to make it work. Have contacted ovo and them are forwarding to technical. The app does show when you click more it is receiving updates as in time stamp in green. What happens is ovo do get my car charging but not on smart charging. Nothing shows on the ovo app except the percentage charged goes up on ovo app. If I stop the charge in bluelink after a while again it starts charging but nothing shows up in ove app. Except the charged percentage goes up.

Also we have a second hyundai kona model 2022 which charging perfectly everytime. Checking on AI it states 2022 model fully compatible with ovo. 2025 model is different case. Issue it states is with the API token. Have had issue know for 4 days without any luck.
