Question

New Renault 5 and Pod Point cannot smart charge - what can I do?

Hi all,

I'm new to EV's, and would appreciate help!

I have a Renault 5, which is compatible with OVO.

I have a Pod Point charger which is not.

I have a monthly plan with OVO and a Renault App through which OVO should speak to my car.

I've agreed to all data sharing in my car.

I have my vehicle connected to the Renault App.

All schedules are turned OFF apart from on the OVO app, but the charge repeatedly fails to be performed.

I have managed a charge through the charger once to make sure it actually works, which it does.

I've read forums and tried deleting my vehicle from OVO charge after reinstalling the app, and have done the same on the Renault App.

Any ideas how I can get Ovo Charge to talk to tge car app please?

Thanks

Chris

Ooh. We also have a Renault 5 - very happy with the car, However, I have been going round in circles too trying to get a Smart Charge from Octopus with my Zappi charger. I’ve been charging from our solar panels this week thankfully. I hope someone can advise.

@Marcel Bertie trying to fathom out why mine doesn’t work and have noted this on the MyRenault app “Please note that your vehicle must be in a network coverage zone when activating and using your connected services”. I’m not certain mine is a particularly good zone. How about yours?

Hi, it's at home so it should be. That said my mobile can be sketchy, though I've had wi fi on as well and the car is able to access that. Confused! 😁

Just a tip. Renault is kinda weird with getting Connected Services going. You may need to temporarily move the vehicle somewhere else for a few hours - ideally somewhere with a decent signal - to force it to refresh the status and activate any services.

Other than that? I’d chat to the team - 0330 175 9678 or chargeanytime@ovo.com so they can pull diagnostics.

Great, I'll try that. Thanks

No worries. The team on that line can only help with Charge Anytime stuff, but they’re really good and are often pretty fast to answer calls because that’s the only thing they deal with. Say hi to them for me! :)

Hehehe… Technically I could have fixed that… At the cost of Voice of Bradley… :D

Hey @Marcel Bertie,

A warm welcome to our community ✋🏻 I’ve given you one of our EV badges for your profile to show you’re an EV owner to other users.

I’m not sure if this will help, but I've noticed that Renault's connected services have sometimes blocked smart charging. I’ve added a link below with some steps you can try on your car’s infotainment system, fingers crossed that it helps. It’s interesting that both you and @juliamc are facing similar issues even with different setups and suppliers. I’ll reach out to someone on the Charge Anytime team to see if they’ve come across this before and if they can share any helpful tips. And remember, you can always give them a call or jump into a live chat! They can look into your account and data to provide you with more detailed help.
