Is my Mercedes EQC 400 compatible with OVO's Charge Anytime with a podpoint?

Hi, I have a Mercedes EQC400 on order and am trying to determine if it will be compatible with the Anytime tariff. 

From what I understand, OVO are saying that you can use a compatible car OR a compatible charger.

However, I cant see the car on either the OVO compatibility list or the OHME compatibility list on their website.

Therefore I'm checking if anyone knows if either will work with an EQC.

If anyone has experience with these tariffs / cars then please let me know how you’ve got on.

Ohme chargers are no longer be compatible with Charge Anytime. We’ve recently updated the technology behind Charge Anytime. This is so we can keep making improvements and create new products that reward customers for driving EVs.

 

It's not been possible to integrate Ohme with this new technology. If you have an Ohme charger you’ll still be able to sign up to Charge Anytime by connecting with an eligible vehicle. We’re constantly looking to open up the eligibility to more EV models so if you don’t see your EV here, keep an eye on our page.

For all Forum Members who are part of the Mercedes / Beta Pilot:

 

This is still a pilot, and some issues - like the 50% total charge problem - may take time to resolve. As a result, the Charge Anytime team is unable to provide further updates at this time.

 

If the limitations you're experiencing outweigh the benefits of the Charge Anytime add-on, we recommend leaving the pilot for now while we work on improving the service.

 

We’re sorry for any frustration this may cause. Please keep an eye on the Forum for updates - we’ll share any new developments as soon as we have them.

 

You can exit the Mercedes Beta Pilot at any time by taking the following steps:

 

  • Open the OVO Charge Anytime app
  • Click on the "Account" tab in the bottom right
  • Click on the User icon in the top left
  • Click the "Delete account" link
  • Select a reason for leaving and click "Continue"
  • Your app account will now be deleted and there will be no further connection or interaction between your car and the OVO system
  • Note: You will still be credited for any smart charging that you have done up to this point

 

Not got a compatible smart charger? You can also get Charge Anytime if you’ve got a compatible EV!

The Ohme chargers are here, although OVO have confirmed the Ohme epod is also compatible. You don't need a compatible car if you have a compatible charger

    Hi @ScottC27 ,

    Your EV unfortunately won’t be compatible at this time. However, most Ohme chargers ARE supported so you should be able to go down that route with Charge Anytime. Just so I can be sure, which Charger were you planning on?

      Thanks for the replies - i have currently got a pod point charger but it is faulty and needs replacing. I was considering the Ohme Home pro as a replacement but wanted to double check it would work ok before purchasing one.

       

      With the EQC not showing on the OHME website either, i thought i’d check further, first.

      I have emailed Ohme helpdesk directly too

        Yup, the Ohme Home Pro works. We’ve seen a few people here with one. It’s fully compatible as long as you don’t also enable that Ohme Labs thing that also tries to control the scheduling, because that feature clashes with Charge Anytime.

          That is a very good point @ScottC27 

          Worth checking the Ohme Home Pro works with your car in a chat with Ohme directly. 

          All we have done is confirm that the Ohme Home Pro works with OVO Anytime as per the OVO website.

          In a search on this forum i didn't notice any other customers yet with the EQC Mercedes model who could confirm they had got it working yet. 

          Although lots of the charger websites list the Ohme Home Pro as a compatible charger

            I have had an initial reply form Ohme directly stating that (as we have determined) the Ohme pro will work with OVO,…….. but they also say they “do not currently hold an API for Mercedes. “

            I am not sure exactly what that means or what effect that will have on its function, so have requested further detail

            What that means is you can’t use D2V Mode with your Mercedes, but that wouldn’t matter because it’d only affect the Ohme Labs features anyway which won’t work with Charge Anytime.

            But the Charger itself is compatible with Charge Anytime and that’s usually the easier option to get working anyway - plus you can plug in ANY EV and get the Charge Anytime rates. :)

              This is interesting, I hadn’t considered smart charger compatibility with the EV. Is it common for a smart charger that has a matching plug to the EV socket to not be compatible? I suppose for ‘smart charging’ of any kind it would usually have to connect to the EV manufacturer’s API. 

               

              What that means is you can’t use D2V Mode with your Mercedes, but that wouldn’t matter because it’d only affect the Ohme Labs features anyway which won’t work with Charge Anytime.

              But the Charger itself is compatible with Charge Anytime and that’s usually the easier option to get working anyway - plus you can plug in ANY EV and get the Charge Anytime rates. :)

               

              However I’m not sure that Charge Anytime via direct to vehicle (D2V) needs the charger to connect to the EV’s API. It’s all done via the actual EV, hence why even a granny charger would work if allowed enough time (not recommended). Thoughts or corrections to this would be welcome!

              My only thought is it does no harm for customers to thoroughly check compatibility as much as possible. 

              These are very expensive purchases.

              Also for customers to thoroughly read recent threads regarding anything specific on makes and models of chargers and cars on the forum. The search feature on the forum is good for that. There is useful direct feedback on different setups, common issues, what appears to work best etc. Obviously it is a moving story... 

              Finally for customers to at least check for compatibility with other energy suppliers.  The OVO tariff looks like good value now, but new EV tariffs will be coming out from a variety of suppliers and possibly from completely new companies, all with slightly different criteria.

                UPDATE - I have now got my EQC and have the OHME Home Pro installed. I have only just received the car and so far only tried one overnight, scheduled charge. I was able to link the Anytime tariff and the OVO app to the OHME account/app OK.

                The first charge seemed to work ok from a scheduling and billing point of view - I set the desired schedule in the Ohme app. I set a schedule of ADD 50% by 06:30. I saw the charger kick in and the following day I could see that the car had charged overnight (to some extent - see below). I could also see on my OVO app that the  charging period was noted and the Anytime refund had been applied successfully.

                So mostly all went well.

                I did have one small problem, though that im still working on and if anyone can advise i’d be very grateful. 

                The charger only seemed to charge at 3.7kW rather than 7kW, so rather than the 50% I’d hoped for, I got just over 30%.

                I have checked the OHME settings and that is set to 32A, with load balancing on at 100A. The cabling is all tethered and the charger capabel of 7kW, so i dont think that’s the cause.

                I checked all the car settings and the charge rate is set to maximum and there are no schedules set that may conflict. 

                 

                And so far im loving the EV experience!
