Indra charger having issues with connectivity

Had my Indra Charger installed for a week now.

Done several charges with no issues, OVO has 'seen' them fine.

Until this morning that is.

Latest charge has not shown in the OVO app and it's been saying there is an issue try again later.

Got home and charger was flashing purple, which I understand is a comms error.

Rebooted and now white again, but OVO don't seem to know I charged last night, as I guess there was a comms problem.

Will this sort itself out or will I be charged at the full rate for this charge period because of a comms drop?

And anyone with an Indra, how common is it for this to happen, bit worrying.

I’ve just spoken to Indra again. They’ve reviewed this thread and have reason to believe there may be some crossed wires here. I like to maintain good relationships with them because it proves useful for situations like this one.

They ARE willing to assist anyone who’s out of warranty - it’s just that they don’t do it for free.

For those who are out of warranty, Indra can and will be happy to replace dongles for a cost of about £60 for the dongle + £250 for the site visit. Please contact them again and reference this thread, they’ll sort this out for you.

If you are in warranty, these fees may be waived but requires discussion with Indra first to confirm.

For me, and I am doing this on Monday, as I am out of warranty, a local electrician is going to convert mine to Ethernet so I can just get rid of WiFi. The cost of that is cheaper than Indra offer to replace the dongle. So anyone with issues I’d suggest that.

to be clear my router is not near my consumer unit where the charger cable with built in cat 5 comes into the house.  But I am having an extra socket installed and will be using powerline adaptors to get the signal there. Still cheaper than Indra price

I have a possible theory as to a potential culprit. However, I cannot promise that this is definitely the root cause, so please use this information purely at your own risk.

I get the feeling it’s Band Steering related snafus. Some Routers/Access Points implement it WAY better than others - Ubiquiti is known for working like mad on it for example - while others just dump the code in there and don’t care much about whether it works or not.

I would suggest anyone affected tries to turn off Band Steering while leaving the 2.4GHz/5GHz SSIDs combined and see if that helps.

I’ve also sent this theory to Indra to see if they can figure out a fix on their side.

Having been advised to get an indra charger by ovo around 3 years ago I am appalled at the quality of customer service from both companies who just seem to blame each other instead of getting together to sort my (and quite a few others by the amount of posts in this forum) connectivity issues. Mine currently will charge for about 30 mins then disconnects from the Internet. I've already had it upgraded to a WiFi system. And have now been told the equipment is no longer supported but is still within a 4 year warranty. They have offered to install the latest model for a reduced fee of £50 but wouldn't even consider an installation date until I paid upfront even though accepting its their equipment at fault. Surely OVO have some responsibility to lean on indra to sort this out as they are a recommended supplier. I may have switched my gas and electric accounts quite a while ago now but unless I pay for another charger I'd still be stuck with Indra. So much for saving money by trying out an EV.

Hey @Steve Pineside,

Welcome to the community 🎉

We've had a few conversations about Indra connectivity issues, but it would be really helpful if you could share more about the specific problems you’re facing. By providing a bit more detail, there’s a good chance someone in our community has experienced something similar and can offer you some friendly advice and support.

For example, in the thread below, folks recommend reaching out to Indra directly since they are the experts. While we love being able to supply and installing Indra chargers, OVO isn’t quite set up to tackle the technical details of connection issues. That’s where Indra's support team comes in, they’re ready to help!

You can reach Indra support on 01684 770 631 or at support@indra.co.uk. I hope this helps and you get to a resolution.

Chris, not so sure about help from Indra support. My Indra Pro stopped working end of March..Ovo app saying no vehicle detected even when plugged in. Indra say otherwise and on app vehicle is plugged in!. Replacement charger 2w ago...same old issue. And Indra yet to sort mine out

As a personal thought I would take the opportunity to upgade my existing equipment for £50 because smart charge points generally only have a 5 or 6 year life before either something expires or it becomes incompatible with the servers/software it is connected to. Dumb charge points (and smart charge points that have lost their comms or compatibility) can last 10 years but not many do.

Hi  posting here to see if anyone can help as Indra are absolutely useless

My Indra Pro stopped working end of March. Wont even boost charge even though showing all was connected..wifi as well. Ovo app showing no car plugged in. Tried different cable and same issue. After lots of emails to Indra..fjnally had new Charger installed last week. The guy managed to get a boost charge. But post me getting new Indra app ( was told to delete original) and connecting to Ovo Charge...same issue. Ovo charge cannot detect my car is plugged in teady to charge. Indra dont even get back to me anymore. Think will go ahead with formal complaint to ombudsman now. Any solutions for now..?

Hey @Nazaff,

Have Indra install the same model of charger for you, or did you get a newer version? I was thinking it might be a good idea to reach out to our Charge Anytime team to see if they can reset the connection to your charger on our end. That way, we can pair the new charger as if it’s a brand new installation.

You can get in touch directly with the Charge Anytime team Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm via:

  • Phone on 0330 175 9678 (Option 1 new customers/option 2 existing customers)

  • Email via ovocharge@ovo.com

Keep us updated on your progress.

@Chris_OVO   yes called them. Ovo felt not an ovo issue, fault with the charger. Asked me to contract Indra..told him re all issues and eventually agreed to send them an email . Dont hold much hope. Plan now is to get a different charger from another company and take legal action against Indra for costs and damages if not sorted by end of next week.
