I’m new to the ev market. I have a VW id5, I have tried speaking to customer services with very little success. Can anyone tell me what is the problem with adding the ‘Charge Anytime’ to my home tariff with this vehicle.??

Sorry, but your EV isn’t compatible at this time.

What charger do you have?

Brilliant!!. our charger is a Project EV. You say at this time does that mean that I will be able to in the near future??

Hi

@Steve R-C welcome to the customer forum, i am just a customer like you.

Unfortunately this tariff is currently limited to those with these vehicles or chargers

https://www.ovoenergy.com/electric-cars/charge-anytime-cars-and-chargers

https://account.ovoenergy.com/anytime/eligibility?

OVO won't give out any timescales for other chargers or vehicles, this is always the stock answer they give unfortunately.

HOWEVER... at time of updating this thread, the website isn't currently up to date. If you go on the app you should see the ID vehicles. You do need version 3 of the VW software.

Links for the app are:

Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kaluza.flex.anytime

It’s mad that EV owners cannot get cheaper energy for charging up their cars.   So many people are buying EV’s then slapped in the face when it comes to trying to get cheaper electricity for a few hours in the night to charge it!….

And when you find a tariff that knocks a few pence off, you find that the other 20 hours daily rates have increased ( to make up for the cheaper 4 hours).    You really are no better off.  Sometimes i wish i had waited and not bought my EV yet.  There really is no incentive out there..

Might be worth asking your charger manufacture why they aren't compatible with the new Intelligent Octopus and Anytime OVO tariff. The charger manufacturers will loose a lot of business if they don't sort it out.

Have you tried downloading the Charge Anytime app to see if your ID5 is on its compatibility list? I was even able to connect my Golf eHybrid by doing that. I can’t remember offhand if the ID5 appears, but VW definitely is available from the Android app, even though it is not on Ovo’s official list.

You will need the login details for both your VW app and your Ovo account.

There are now two ways you can get Charge Anytime:

You must have an eligible EV or Smart Charger, we’re constantly looking into ways to broaden eligibility of this product so if your technology isn’t currently on this list keep an eye on our page for updates!

@Steve R-C

The ID5 does appear on the app. You do need a particular version of the ID software. Whether it actually connects and works i don't know. Whether you need a compatible charger i don't know.

The EV list on the app is inconsistent with the list on the website unfortunately by the look of things unless i am mistaken.

@Tim_OVO just to point out the website isn't in sync with the website in case you were not already aware, although obviously i don’t know if it actually works.

As far as I know, the ID5 uses a version of We Connect, which is the same app I use for my Golf. You should not need a compatible charger as the Ovo system is D2V (Direct To Vehicle) regardless of charger. Mine even works with the standard VW plug-in 13A granny charger (within limitations).

As @Jeffus points out to @Tim_OVO, the Ovo website is out of sync, and it is not even easy to find the links to the app - which is why I listed them above. This is probably because the app itself is still being tweaked to extend availability. The developers seem to be very responsive to feedback, so it is understandable the website has not yet caught up.

@kopweb Interestingly the Golf had been removed from the app when i took the screen shots above, only those ID vehicles were listed. You couldn't actually select a Golf yesterday

Hi @Jeffus, that’s very strange. It was certainly available through the dropdown model list in version 1.1.1 of the Android app. And a number of VWs feature on the Ovo website list at https://www.ovoenergy.com/terms/anytime:

But then again, neither my eHybrid nor @Steve R-C’s ID5 appear on that list 🙄...

Yep, strange, i downloaded the android app fresh yesterday for the screen shots. Didn't have it installed before that.

Ah well, I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed that I can carry on using it now my car is registered in the system.

can anyone confirm if a 2022 E golf hybrid would be compatible or not?

We can’t confirm that right now. VW isn’t seeming to play ball very well...

sorry, i thought the earlier post was saying it was…    its confusing.

Hi @TD12345, I can confirm that my 2022 Golf eHybrid does work with Charge Anytime via the android app.

When I downloaded v.1.1.1 of the app 3 weeks ago, the eHybrid was there on the list of compatible cars and the link to We Connect was absolutely painless. Charge Anytime has been working fine for me ever since. The only problems have been to do with my use of the granny charger. But even then the worst I get is an occasional incomplete charge, which is not a huge problem for me.

However, @Jeffus is pretty sure the Golf wasn’t available from the VW dropdown when he downloaded the app the other day, which suggests the list has changed in the last 3 weeks. It could well be that Ovo want to expand the list more slowly and surely than the app allows.

@Blastoise186 is a forum volunteer so may be able to explain more about what he means by:

We can’t confirm that right now. VW isn’t seeming to play ball very well...

It’s just what I’ve seen from the forum mainly.

Ah OK, @Blastoise186 - thanks for that. It does seem to be very confused and confusing. All I can say with certainty is that my own Golf eHybrid is merrily charging away on Charge Anytime as we speak (see below).

My best advice to @Steve R-C, @TD12345, @RosRigby, @Davewn2, et al would be to download the app from the links above and give it a try. They may or may not be successful but they won’t lose anything by trying!

I think that is good advice.

OVO have now confirmed the VW ID vehicles are compatible as long as they have version 3 of the software.

They are going to update the website with that information.

I have asked again about the other VWs.

thank you - can you post about the other VWs as and when you know.

Will do. Which one do you have?

I will keep pushing for the different data sources on the web and the actual app to be made and then kept consist for the VWs in particular which seems to be an issue currently.

In the meantime i suggest keep checking the app as kindly posted by @kopweb

Something strange has happened with the app as e golf users have connected in the past but it now only shows the VW ID cars.

Will just have to wait and see what OVO say is going on.

We’ve heard back from the forum moderators.

Here’s what we know.

The VW ID.3, ID.4, ID.5 and ID.Buzz are compatible. But no other VW is at this time.

thanks to everyone who has commented here on my questions, appreciated.
