At OVO, we're always excited to find new ways to make managing your energy account as easy as possible!
Our billing platform is a live display of your current costs—it updates how we calculate your energy and lets you see this info more frequently on your online account or through the OVO app (which you can download for both Android or iOS).
Now, when you log in, you’ll see your account balance refresh every day, based on the latest reading you’ve submitted or the one we’ve received automatically from your smart meter. It’s all about keeping you in the loop.
Traditional energy billing model
Traditionally, energy companies would receive meter reads either;
- From customers reading their own meters and submitting a read.
- From smart meters directly.
Every month, on a specific date, we prepare your bill using the most recent meter reading we have. This could be from your smart meter, the last reading you submitted, or an estimate if we didn’t receive a reading that day.
We understand that this system can make it a bit tricky to anticipate and budget for your energy costs, since you only get updates at certain times throughout the year.
So how does live-billing help?
We developed our new up-to-date billing solution! We listened to our OVO customers, and we understand that waiting for a monthly statement can make it tough to feel in control of your energy costs. We know that when usage goes up, it can create a bit of stress as you wait to see your next bill. That's why we've created a system that gives you a clearer picture of your energy costs every day. Now, you can easily keep track of your balance throughout the month and stay on top of your energy usage. We hope this makes managing your energy costs a little easier and more reassuring for you!
This means that the balance shown on your online account is always an accurate reflection taking into account
- The cost of your energy usage, as calculated and billed with each time your smart meter sends us a reading or you submit a reading manually.
- Daily standing charges.
- Payments and refunds.
Monthly Summaries
You'll see some changes in how your charges appear in your online account, as well as in the monthly statement that we email or mail to you. We’ve made things easier by creating a monthly summary just for you! This summary will be sent according to your communication preferences either by email or traditional mail. Plus, if you ever want to look back at your previous summaries, you can easily download them from the 'Billing History' page in your online account.

How to get the best out of your online account
As we’re able to calculate your charges whenever we receive a reading, the live-billing platform is ideal if you’ve got a smart meter set to send us readings either daily or half-hourly. We’ll then adjust your balance based on actual usage figures each day at midnight. If you’ve not yet got a smart meter installed this might be the perfect time to take the leap.
