Struggling to Navigate ECO4 Grants for Boiler Replacement

Hi everyone,

I hope someone can help me with some confusion about the ECO4 grant scheme. My ancient boiler (15+ years old) has been acting up all winter, and my energy bills are through the roof. A friend mentioned I might qualify for a free boiler replacement through some government scheme, but I'm completely lost in the process.

I've tried researching online, but there's so much conflicting information:

  • Some sites say I need to be on certain benefits to qualify
  • Others mention something about living in a property with low EPC rating
  • I've seen references to "LA Flex" which I don't understand at all
  • And then there's all this paperwork that seems overwhelming

Has anyone here successfully gotten a boiler replacement through the ECO4 scheme? What was the process like? Did you apply directly or go through an installer?

I'm also wondering if I should consider insulation instead of (or before) replacing the boiler. My house is from the 1980s and feels drafty, especially in the bedrooms. Would cavity wall insulation make a bigger difference to my bills than a new boiler?

I found a company called ECO Grant UK when searching online that seems to handle these grants, but before I reach out, I wanted to get some real experiences from people who've gone through the process. Was it straightforward? Were there hidden costs? How long did the whole thing take from application to installation?

Any advice would be massively appreciated - I'm dreading another winter with this unreliable heating system!

Thanks in advance, Mark

I know it’s not what you asked exactly but there is some guidance and detail here
