Had a short power cut this morning, ( didnt make any trip switch go) later went to put on any lights and they are dimming in and out like flicking. All other electrical goods such as tv, tumble drier etc are ok. Any idea of the reason behind this. My neighbours lights doing the same

Hey @Ken2

I’m glad to hear it seems to have resolved itself, I hope you found the advice from our community members helpful.

As PeterE mentioned, it still might be worth reporting anyway just in case, otherwise I definitely would report it to your DNO if it occurs again at all.

If there are any vulnerabilities within your household I’d recommend signing up to the Priority Services Register. It’s a free service with numerous benefits. If you’re signed up, the Grid will contact you if there’s any incoming outages there aware of, and will also look to get your property back on supply with priority during a powercut.

If you have any other problems in future, feel free to pop back any time.😊

Hey @Ken2 !

Please call 105 immediately. That should NOT be happening.

Thanks

I agree call 105 and ask that doesn’t sound good needs checking IMO by professional. Maybe turn lights of by flicking switch for lights until you know.

Further to initial concerns the issue seemed to have resolved itself, all lights working fine. Also same had occurred with neighbour

No worries - if it happens again please let your DNO know via 105 ASAP.

I would let them know anyway. Potentially that is an Open Protective Earth Neutral (Open PEN) fault between you and the substation and it is so serious that it is  a RIDDOR reportable occurrence because of the dangerous consequences particularly when EVs are being charged due a high voltage appearing between the bodywork of the car and the ground it is standing on.
