So it looks like the Power Move is on its way again. What's everyone's thoughts about it this time around?

This exercise seems unfair to those of us who have changed our behaviour over the past year or two to shift consumption out of the peak 4-7PM slot. I just checked my data for June (the latest full month available) and find that my usage pattern was:

Period % of daily usage
00:00-06:59 12.7

07:00-15:59

49.9
16:00-18:59 11.2
19:00-23:59 26.1

With my consumption in the peak period already well below 12.5% of the daily total, there’s no way I could earn the reward on offer even though I’m doing more to ease the strain than those who do. This isn’t fair.

It isn’t asking consumers to ‘add’ to their reduction @Firedog , simply to maintain a reduction of less than 12.5% of monthly consumption to below that percentage, so on your example above, you would have made the target

Hey @Lucky2,

Great to hear from you!

Our Power Move Group is probably a really good place to spark discussions and ask questions!

Yep, but I’m not eligible for the scheme, presumably because I’ve not got anything to shift. Those of us who have already taken this message on board are penalized for doing so!

These are the only criteria I could find:

Criteria for eligibility:

  • Billed on OVO’s in house billing platform (majority of OVO customers are)
  • No upcoming switch away from OVO
  • Pay monthly customer
  • Opted in to marketing communication
  • Email address available
  • Smart meter
  • For half hourly (HH) smart meter reading schedules: No missing consumption data in last 21 days
  • For daily smart meter reading schedules: No readings missing in last 21 days

AFAICS, I tick all the boxes, but I still don’t have the option to join the scheme.

Hey @Firedog,

Sorry to hear you are unable to see the option to join,

The advice from the team still remains:

This is being rolled out to eligible customers right now, so keep an eye out for it in your account. If you can’t see the link yet, check back soon.
We’ll send an email invite as soon as it’s available to everyone.

I completely understand your perspective, some customers like yourself have already made the effort to reduce their energy consumption which is brilliant and the planet is thanking you! These grid balancing schemes are attempting to encourage the masses to reduce their energy consumption during peak times, for monetary reward, this incentive might encourage customers who have never considered reducing their usage before to do so! In my mind, getting high users who don’t yet think about their energy usage to be more conscious of it, or to open up conversations. That’s a win for everyone, because if everyone uses less energy, then we all win because the environmental impact is lessened!

I wonder. I really doubt that OVO will - after every eligible customer has been signed up next month - simply send out cheques for £10 a month to all of them whose 4-7PM consumption is below 12.5% of the daily usage. I had yet another email yesterday calling this “our innovative Power Move product that helps customers to cut electricity use during peak times ...” This certainly sounds as if change is expected, and it also seems to be borne out by Emmanuelle’s reply this morning.

I still think it’s unfair 😝

That’s not what the scheme says

OK, I’ll just wait to be invited, then watch the cheques roll in 😉

I couldn’t take part in last winter’s trial because my meter was still not on DCC, which I supposed is another prerequisite that isn’t mentioned. We’ll see.
