Reuters have just reported this:

Nov 30 (Reuters) - Britain's National Grid will pay some households to use 550 megawatts less electricity between 1630 and 1800 GMT on Friday evening, it said on Thursday.

I guess that most of us will be interested to see our personal targets.

At a 0.1-0.5 kWh target it doesn't really matter how much per kWh reduction is being offered.

Just read my email £3 per kWh from OVO.

Personal target 0.1 kWh

I won't be opting in to this one.

One of the things I don't understand is why was yesterdays at £1 per kWh and tomorrows is back to £3 kWh - can anyone enlighten me ? Is it just as part of the trial they want to see where the incentive needs to be set??

Not sure about the £’s difference between suppliers,  but it's interesting to see that the time has shifted.

That could be to test if the upsurge in demand immediately following an event, such as was seen yesterday, might be an issue?

hi @Nukecad I’m not talking about difference between suppliers those are the incentives I was offered via Ovo - £1 per kWh yesterday and £3 per kWh tomorrow (and it was £3 for the 1st one i did) a week ish ago)

Wednesday 29 November and for every kWh you shift below your target, you’ll receive £1 towards your energy bill.

Friday 1 December and for every kWh you shift below your target, you’ll receive £3 towards your energy bill.

Am I the only one to get the reduction??

For "live" events companies have to submit a bid £ and kWh and these are accepted by the National Grid ESO starting with the lowest £ bid until they have enough capacity reduction in the bids.

So it may be OVO bid low in the previous event or too high and not accepted

6 of the 12  test events were a guaranteed fixed price.

Thanks @Jeffus that helps me understand it a bit better.

Do you know if companies (and I mean all, not specifically Ovo) get paid for the number of clients that sign up or do they just get what they need to reward the successful customers?  (I have tried to make head and tail out of the ESO / DFS docs but I just cant - I am not fluent in that language lol! )

£5.50 is pretty good but, with a target of 0.3KWh for 1.5 hours (and a family dinner to cook)there is still no point in me chasing it. £1.65 for 0KWh (which is so not going to happen) - nah!

My Octoping doesn’t have a points or £ value - I assume it’s because I’m on their Cosy tariff ?? I’ve opted in. Very aware of the heat pump surging into action after its setback during the saving session though ☹️

Not sure @juliamc , I think the totals are just general. Don’t think they’re any different for different tariffs.
Incidentally I’ve seen a calculation that my ‘base level’ (so my normal level) at that time is around 8wh 😳 .. oh well

I signed up for this Power Move Plus several days ago, and was told to look out for emails giving me details of “events” and targets for me to aim for but I’ve heard no more. How long is it before I can start to get involved, and benefit from my change of habits?

The last event was on 1 December, so you may have joined too late to be included - it takes a while for the addition of a new customer to filter through the system.

The email arrives just a few hours before the event, so you can’t really ‘change behaviour’ beforehand. The two events so far have been early-evening ones. The next might be an early-morning (05:30?) one. You never know.

@Electric Fred

You should have just got an event email - there is a PM+ (DFS) event today 5th Dec

Reading what you say in your post though “benefit from my change of habits” I believe that the scheme you may want to join is Power Move and not Power Move Plus.

Power Move Plus is a series of one off events at short notice.
An event is for a short time on a particular day.

Power Move is a peak-hours/every weekday, usage reduction challenge that runs for a whole month at a time.

Hey @Electric Fred,

Great to hear you want to get involved! 😊

We have two schemes as pointed out by @Nukecad, both might be of interest to you.

These topics give a bit more insight into how it all works, they may be helpful to you:
