Is Power Move Plus the same as Power Move?

I got the same thing yesterday,  lm a bit confused aswell,  can anyone help please 🙏

Pity about the names being so similiar, no doubt that is going to cause some confusion.

Up to you.  As @BPLightlog highlights you don't have to use OVO to take part in the Demand Flexibility Scheme. 

The OVO version of the Demand Flexibility scheme isn't particularly generous. 

OVO keep 20% of the money that you could earn.

Uswitch give you 100%. 

You don't have to switch suppliers. You simply sign up to the uswitch scheme rather than power move plus.

If the money is important it is worth looking at the uswitch version before making a decision. 

Seems to be a similar scheme with additional specific tasks to be carried out on demand from the grid. Looks like a lot of extra hassle for little return. 'Scuse my cynicism but instead of investing in making the grid fit for purpose the customer is being asked to bale them out of the annual surge in winter demand. Don't think I'll bother with this new game!

It is a fair challenge. 

The thing is investing in the grid to be able to cope with peak demand is very expensive and it will continue to be expensive. This investment cost is being added to everyones bills. These costs are only going to increase. 

Even a proportion of households working to shift their electricity will help reduce some of the need for investment and hence reduce peoples bills. 

One of the purposes of these schemes is to see what is realistic. The main purpose of the Demand Flexibility Service is as an emergency response when there is a high risk of a mismatch in supply vs demand. A similar scheme for industry has been run in the past. Hence the trialing of the scheme again this year for anyone who would like to take part.

I tried to follow the link in the Ovo app. Seems you only need to sign up once. 

@ Jeffus "Investing in the grid is expensive" Agreed but surely that's what profits are for - £4.9 billion last year, moreover £9 billion paid out to the handful of major shareholders (mostly overseas) in past five years.

Don't get me wrong, we all need to do our bit to protect the supply and I do. As a single pensioner my usage is minimal anyway, even so I am on track to hit the Power Move target.

The point I am trying to make is - how much is enough?

It is what is it now. 

Although we have OFGEM to look after our interests in theory, we now have a privatised national grid, electricity production, local network operators etc. Those profits aren't often going to be reinvested.
