Welcome @Sanka14 , and Happy New Year!

Yep, I can confirm that Power Move is still running this month with the same rules as in the October to December 2024 challenge.

As a reminder, you want to move usage away from the Peak 4pm to 7pm slot on Weekdays. All usage outside of that time on Weekdays and all usage on Weekends (regardless of time) counts as Off-Peak. The targets are the same as before as well.

Good luck!

Some great advice here from Blastoise186 already, Power Move will continue, if we make any changes to the challenges etc we’ll notify all customers.

I’ve never had storage heaters or an electric immersion heater: I moved my washing machine and dishwasher usage to overnight, and moved cooking activities to later in the evening in order to MOVE my usage away from the 4-7pm peak time. Still EXCLUDED for some reason.

Who can join?

To be eligible to join a Power Move challenge, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be an OVO customer and have energy supplied by us
  • Have the OVO app and have joined Beyond
  • Have a working electricity smart meter
  • Have a credit meter
  • Have a single rate meter (not Economy 7 or Economy 10) or Charge Anytime or Heat Pump
  • Have an active Direct Debit
  • Have an active email address set up with OVO
  • Be opted into half-hourly meter reads for billing (you can do this when you join)
  • Be opted into half-hourly meter reads for settlement (you can do this when you join)

Please note: Not all meter types work with Power Move. Unfortunately, this means customers with multi-rate meters, like Economy 7 and Economy 10, can't join Power Move.

You can find out more about how Power Move works on our FAQs page.

Thanks!

Then I will keep going this month, too - after managing to hit the target 2 months in a row. December: average peak use 5.03%. Bill deduction most welcome!

In October, those amongst us with multirate meters were excluded for some undisclosed reason. It was stated that OVO were working on a solution. I wonder if they have sorted this issue yet?

I have no updates at this time.

However, my understanding is that support will likely return in the future once it’s possible to have E7/E10 support that actually makes the challenge worthwhile.

Thanks you for your reply. It was certainly worthwhile for me, as I achieved the target every month, until it was withdrawn. Maybe the company decided that they were actually giving something away and it was costing too much?

Nope! Something else entirely.

Let’s just say those on E7/E10 were claiming the lions share of the rewards, which made it a little too overpowered and unbalanced - which isn’t fair on everyone else.

As an E7 consumer I too will be interested to see why we have been excluded from Power Move and the way forward for future involvement. Also seem to remember they moved this to direct debit customers only excluding all others who I believe should be included if their account is in good order (ie. regular payments made on time).

Yep!

So nothing at all for those who use power overnight when there is power to spare…

The idea of Power Move is to move usage out of Peak slots e.g. make dinner at more flexible times. Strictly speaking, firing up Storage Heaters between midnight and 7am is not moving usage around because you’ve always run them at those times and it contributes nothing to moving Peak usage around. I’d argue that shouldn’t qualify for PM just for that reason alone!

If support for E7/E10 does get restored, do not be surprised if usage from Storage Heaters or Immersion Heaters gets excluded completely.

As for the Pay On-Demand thing, I wish to remind you all that Pay On-Demand is considered the most risky payment method in terms of non-payment/non-compliance by a significant margin compared to Direct Debit or PAYG. It could be said that it’s not appropriate to be giving rewards to those who fail to pay on-time…

Ultimately, Power Move is part of OVO Beyond now - and it’s OVO Beyond rather than PM that has the DD rule. Your options are migrate to DD and enjoy PM, or stay on POD and accept you can’t have the fancy stuff. Worth noting that being on DD also gives you cheaper rates...
