I'm Economy 7- Why does my bill only show last years comparison for day usage?

The latest version of the monthly bill is really comprehensive and helpful, but it contains a fault, probably only for E7 customers. On the Electricity in detail page, there is a consumption figure for last year for comparison at the foot of the left-hand column.

I have left no stone unturned in my efforts to minimize my consumption, so I was alarmed to see that last year’s usage was substantially lower than this year’s. So I dug out the corresponding bill for September 2021. The ‘comparison’ figure quoted (114.300kWh) is for daytime usage only. This is from my bill for September 2022:
   

 

Panic over 😅 (a 34% reduction in daytime usage since last year), but how do I go about getting this corrected for future bills?

Wonders will never cease. Here are two screenshots from the same bill. The left-hand one is from the PDF that accompanied my monthly Your OVO Energy bill email and was generated on 5 January 2023. The right-hand one was downloaded from my Billing history page this morning. They are identical (AFAICS), apart from the Date generated and the figure highlighted in the screenshots:
  

 

[For those only reading the answer, until January 2023, the comparison figure on bills for an Economy 7 electricity account gave only the daytime usage from a year ago, instead of the total usage. This now appears to have been corrected 👍]

Do each of your bills only show comparisons for day time usage? This might be how the statements are built. If so, it does seem like an oversight! 

 

If it’s only this bill, I'm sure it’ll be corrected on the next one.

No, it’s been like this for years; I’ve just never bothered to check before. See the comparison figure (114.300kWh) in my first screenshot? This is where it comes from (September usage):

    For myself the daytime readings are always higher compared to the Night time readings.

    However, for the month of September 2022 around 19th/20th September they have somehow managed to swap my daytime and night time meter reading over resulting in being charged £388.78 for the day of 19th September. Have been in touch with OVO on Friday 7 Oct 2022. It was being passed onto their team to sort out. I am awaiting their reply at the moment. Sinc 19th September my day meter readings are nights, and my night meter readings are days.

      Hey @shaship,

       

      Welcome to the OVO Online Community.

       

      This sounds like transposed readings (when the day and night register get mixed up), this similar thread might be helpful to you:

       

       

      It sounds like it’s already with the right team and they’ll get this sorted for you. It’s unusual it’s happened out of the blue on your account though. Usually transposed readings are caused when a customer submits meter readings wrong or when a switch happens from one supplier to another.

       

      Once we’ve determined which register is which, it’s usually easily resolved.

       

      Keep us posted with how you get on.

        To me it looks like a random figure plucked out of air. You need to look up your bill a year ago to see which figure is right. Did your meter readings flip from day to night and also night to day during this year? Your day meter readings on the meter are lower than the night reading. Approximately 7000 compared to 10000. Oh and have they told you also to increase your direct debit by a large amount??

        No, they just used to take the wrong figure. Now they take the right one.

          

        Did your meter readings flip from day to night and also night to day during this year? Your day meter readings on the meter are lower than the night reading. 


        No; once upon a time, it was affordable to use electricity for heating by using night storage heaters (5p/kWh). That pumped up the night register reading. When the rates started rising to obscene levels, I stopped using those heaters, so nowadays most of my usage is in daytime.

          

        have they told you also to increase your direct debit by a large amount?? 

          
        No. I have a comfortable credit balance, so they keep suggesting I reduce my DD to £5. I ignore the suggestion.
