Great to see your interest in analysing your smart meter usage data. As you’ve found there’s plenty of data provided via the ‘Usage’ pages of your online account or OVO app (download for Android or iOS).

As you mentioned, our Help Centre article confirms:

Download energy use data

We’re sorry but you can’t download your energy use data online yet – we’re working on making this happen. If you’d like a copy for your records, the only way to do this is copy and paste the data or to print the screen from your browser.

We’re constantly working to improve the tools available to help you manage your energy use so welcome this valuable feedback on what you’d like to see in future.

I know how you feel. What I do depends on having python already installed (and a python package called selenium). I could make my script a bit more user-friendly than it is, but perhaps others might offer a Windows exe that you'd prefer...

Hi @ajr - good question this. Kaluza will be making an announcement at some point this year or early next on an API. For the moment, please see this comment for the relevant instructions. There seems to be two customer built methods.

@Blastoise186 what options does the Bright app offer in terms of downloading usage data? I suppose that either way, it requires a communicating smart meter...

I don’t have any experience with the Bright app myself, sorry!

You could probably chuck a GDPR request at them to get a data dump sent over manually though I guess. It is your data after all…

And yes, for any of these apps to work, an S2 or S1+ Smart Meter that’s actively communicating with DCC is required. These apps access meters under the DCC Other User role, giving them permissions to access meters with customer consent. But they can’t touch any that are regular S1 until E&A completes for them.

I am able to download all my usage data (half hourly) into a csv using DataMiner Addin for Chrome.

You need to download and install dataminer but you dont need to pay as the free account will give you the tools required.

If anyone is interested and need more help, let me know.

It’s been four years since they were ‘working on’ giving us access to our data… but it looks like nothing has been done?

I just raised the question on the chat line:

at the moment there is no set date for this however it will be available in the near future

That message seems to have been on the website for the past four years? Is progress being made on making this happen?

Business said

if this is listed on our website it will be in process, I apologise but i cannot provide a timeframe on when this will be available

In the meantime, I scrapped some of the data using the Chrome DataMiner tool (as a previous user recommended). Would be time consuming that to do it for every day without the paid version though.

@JamieHankins it’s been a long time coming hasn’t it!

It’s been a busy few years though, with Covid, the energy crisis and lots of work to get customers to join the OVO family. But I know that the Kaluza team that create the billing platform, this month they spoke to a few forum members about the possible applications of a customer facing API. @g-de and @Jequinlan I think were two of those that spoke to Kaluza...

Indeed I did. I was keeping quiet not knowing how much you wanted to publicise but it was a good chat and great to see a company actively working with the community to open this kind of thing up, rather than trying to prevent non-approved access as I’ve seen elsewhere.

It was a session of finding out how people are using the data, issues encountered and hopes for improvement. I think it was promising and look forward to seeing where things go.

I’m intrigued - what’s non-approved access? Is someone stealing our data?

Probably my poor terminology but I was meaning using apps/scripts developed through reverse engineering rather than via mechanisms which have been officially endorsed and documented to be used by third parties.
