Others have a solution using an existing boiler and a new heat pump.Â
They tend to get promoted on the premise that a gas boiler is potentially cheaper to run when it is very cold and a heat pump when it isn't.Â
The other premise is if the specific heat pump would struggle to provide sufficient heat when it was very cold. There are systems installed that automatically switch between the heat pump and gas boiler.Â
They certainly add complexity and there will be issues with the boiler upgrade scheme grant. They also feel like a medium term fix.Â
Why are you thinking of one?Â
