what about card and key meters are we exempt?

You need to have a smart meter and to be be paying by Direct Debit to join Beyond.

My dad who is on the new RTS smart meter got the mail in card through the letterbox. 

I never got any emails - I manage his online account for him, and have installed the app and signed up. I have to opt in every Monday - which will be a bit of a pain, and it says he will get a credit of 63p per week applied to his bill. 

Now he is on Simpler Energy Economy 10 and pays 22.06p per KW hour off peak (replacement THTC tariff) and 27.14p per kwh peak. 

The flyer card clearly said “don’t miss out on 10kWh of free off peak heating every week this winter” I just don’t see how a weekly credit of 63p per week equates to this - am I missing something? 

I have previously tried to install the app and it would never let me log in took me to web browser every time - at least app is now working fully for me (Android Samsung)

Yes, you are missing that this is a ‘free gas’ offer, so the credit per kWh is the gas tariff rate.

For Electricity only customers who don’t have a gas tariff that has been set at the ‘standard/average’ of 6.3 pence per kWh and they are automatically given the maximun 10 kWh, 10x6.3 = 63p per event.

(They actually get a better deal than gas customers who will probably not use a full 10 kWh of gas).

Thanks for this - would have been better to include that offer in flyer - thought it was too good to be true. using 10Kwh of gas is quite easy I used 145 kw in first 2 days of this week - it is quite cold up here though. 

145 kwh for 2-days seems a lot to me, but it;s going to depend on the size of your property and your heating temprature settings, and the weather outside.

I think the point is though that unlike electricity where you can move usage about for things like washing machines, tumble dryers,  dish washers, etc. there just isn’t the same flexibility with gas usage.

You need your gas central heating when you need heating at your radiators, you can’t move it to earlier or later.
(Heating a tank of water with gas can be moved to a certain extent),

During the last week we have used between 60-80Kw of gas every day - y cost for 6 days is £23.21 for gas - with VAT to go on top. Its been very cold in NE Scotland, we need much more heat up here in winter. We have thermostat at 19 degC during day and 20 degC in evenings not excessive, and its a 3 bed bungalow with large sun lounge - which is harder to heat. 1986 build, well insulated but not super insulated like todays new builds, but 30% of it is insulated now with Kingspan on walls. 

I use Nest heating control, have it wired so that when boiler is feeding rads, it also opens the HW valve and heats the water, On std Nest settings, the HW and CH (demand by stat) were never aligned - makes sense to have boiler running less on HW only. IMHO.
