Andersen A2 (2024) and Andersen A3 EV charger models are now fully compatible with Charge Anytime

Updated on 14/04/26 by Abby_OVO

We're excited to announce that after a successful trial, most Anderson chargers are now fully compatible with Charge Anytime.

If you have an Andersen A2 (2024) or Andersen A3 EV charger model.*  You can now sign up for Charge Anytime and get our super smart charging at any time, day or night. Not only that, our clever tech means you’ll be charging when the grid is greenest.**. So it’s better for your wallet, and the planet too.

How to sign up to Charge Anytime

To start using Charge Anytime, switch to OVO and add Charge Anytime to any tariff once you’re on supply. You can check your compatibility before you switch.

You need to make sure you:

  • Are an OVO customer, on any OVO energy tariff
  • Have a smart meter that's opted in to sending half-hourly readings. If you don't have one, we can install one for you after you switch — at no extra cost
  • Have an iOS or Android phone
  • Have a compatible Andersen charger* installed at your home that can always connect to the internet while charging

Already with OVO? Charge Anytime can be added to any OVO tariff for free. So you can benefit from a super-low EV charging rate with all our tariff options.

*Andersen chargers aren’t available to be purchased and installed through OVO. Terms and conditions apply.

** Our smart tech aims to charge your car when the grid has more renewable energy in it, within the time you’ve set. Meaning it’s less likely your EV will be charged by energy from fossil fuels.

Hey @BarryM ,

Just a heads up. The Andersen integration runs via the Charge Anytime app, so you’d still use the CA app to manage scheduling but could use the Andersen app for everything else. The same is true for Hypervolt in case you were considering that one.

The biggest advantage is being able to charge ANY EV you want and get the Charge Anytime rate on a set-and-forget basis, regardless of what make/model of EV is drinking the zappy juice. And you wouldn’t have to do any further setup once the Charger is linked and configured either - it’ll be truly Plug N Play which makes for ultimate convenience.

One piece of advice though. Please talk to the Charge Anytime for assistance with switching from Direct 2 Vehicle Mode to Charger Mode and vice versa. This is a powerful task that requires their help to make sure it’s done correctly.

Thanks for the reply, I’m not really sure what else I need to use an app for apart from setting a charging schedule for so the Andersen app seems a bit redundant.

I’m confused by your comment about switching from ‘Direct 2 Vehicle Mode’ to ‘Charger Mode’? As I mentioned I currently schedule charging through the CA app so it sounds like no real change unless I’m missing something?

Sorry for the wait! Had a few things to take care of - the curse of being me running all over the place struck again. :P

The main reasons for my advice are that while the same app can be used for both sides, switching between EV <> Charger Mode requires the other method be fully disconnected first, generally requiring help from the Charge Anytime team via their magic dashboards as only one mode can be used at a time and you can’t self-reset IIRC. The Andersen integration runs on OVO’s side, which is why you’d still need the Charge Anytime app with it.

They’re really good at what they do, this is mostly just intended to help give you the best transition.

Had an Andersen A3 EV charger installed at the weekend. Working fine and charging the car as expected. Already an Ovo customer, so wanted to use the Charge Anytime function. Downloaded the app, set it all up and left the car plugged in overnight with a schedule to be charged by 6:30am.

Checked the car around 7am and the charge hasn’t moved at all. Then tried to use Urgent charge feature and that didn’t work either. Tried unplugging and charger from the car and reconnecting. Nothing. I can hear the Andersen box clicking as it seems to be initialising. One second the Ovo Charge Anytime app says charging, then it stops immediately.

The only way I’ve been able to charge my car was by deleting my connection between the Ovo Charge Anytime app and my Andersen A3 EV charger.

Is this a known problem? What am I doing wrong?

Hey @wellandm ,

Just a heads up for others, there’s a related incident regarding JLR: https://status.enode.com/incidents/01JR7TSPHZGPWWEAMQ4AQ7CPE4 .

I’d suggest for this one that you might want to give the Charge Anytime team a heads up. They’ll need to dig the logs which may help with diagnostics. Please call them on 0330 175 9678 or email ovocharge@ovo.com and they’ll take a look.

OK, so we had the Andersen installed and setup today. I took the advice from @Blastoise186  and contacted the ChargeAnytime guys recently and they explained I needed to delete the car from the CA app and add the Andersen charger instead. I did this and all seems to be working….guess I’ll find out tomorrow if I’ve done it right 😀

I made the change myself on the app, the team simply highlighted what change to make

Hi there,

We just joined OVO for electricity and gas. We have an Anderson A2 wall charger being installed shortly. We have two EVs - one is a Porsche Macan 4, the other is a Mercedes EQA 250+.  We would like this both to be charged at the cheaper Charge anytime 7p rate.

Is it possible to have two cars on Charge Anytime?

Thank you

Hey @shah84 ,

Yup! You can indeed. However, since you’re getting a supported Charger, I strongly recommend you use that with Charge Anytime as you’ll have a far smoother experience.

Using the Charger lets you run it with ANY EV you want and still get CA rates.

Hope that helps!
