Way too many plans!

… They could easily make it all a lot simpler with useful filters and/or formatting.

But there are filters and things - didn’t you find them? I only found two tariffs for electricity:

I was referring to the overpopulated on-demand link mentioned above https://plans.ovoenergy.com/

The only filter is for gas vs electric. Did you see my reply to you from an hour or so ago?

I have been unable to reproduce this issue in any modern web browser - it’s worked just fine in ALL desktop and mobile browsers I’ve tested. Short of paying for Browserstack to get access to even more devices to play with, I can only assume things are working correctly.

It is however, worth noting that OVO doesn’t support Internet Explorer, MS Edge Legacy, MS Edge Chromium in IE Mode or any massively outdated browsers, even if the browser itself is one that OVO does support. If you’re using one of those, I’m afraid you’re on your own. If an OVO site is broken exclusively in an unsupported browser and works fine in modern ones, the chances of OVO spending any time on a fix is probably going to be zero.

As such, I can’t endorse a bug report in this case.

I don’t understand your reply? What ‘issue’ are you referring to? I’m using up-to-date Edge under Windows 10

ps it doesn’t matter at all now as I signed up to a dd with simpler energy - as mentioned previously

We have moved into the property just today and want to open a temporary account for energy and gas supply.

Welcome @Krishnapatel ,

Assuming the property is currently with OVO, to get an account set up, please go to https://switch.ovoenergy.com . You can open an account there and that will enable you to pay for the supplies.

If the property is with another supplier, you must go through that supplier instead.

You cannot switch suppliers until you have done this.

Hi @Krishnapatel

Welcome to the Forum,

One of our volunteers has left some really helpful advice here on this already but I just wanted to add some other helpful bits onto that.

As mentioned, you need to set up an energy account with whoever the current energy supplier of the property is.

We’ve got some super helpful resources below that may be of use to you if you’re still unsure on how to get the account set up:

Let us know if you have any problems getting set up.🙂

Morning @Jinling and welcome to the OVO Forum, I hope the move went well 😁. Here’s everything you need to know:

Moving into a property that OVO supplies

If you’ve moved into a property that OVO already supplies then you can fill out this online form to get your account set up. You’ll just need to enter your personal details, select your plan, and set up a Direct Debit if you’d like one. You can find out more about this process in this handy guide:

Switching your new property to OVO

If you’ve moved into a property supplied by a different energy supplier, and you want to switch the supply to OVO, you’ll need to first contact the current supplier of the property and set up an account with them. Once you’ve done this, you can request a switch to OVO using this online form. The switch should be complete within five working days. We’ve also got a Forum guide for this process too:

Once you’ve either let us know you’ve moved into the property, or switched the new property to us, you’ll receive a welcome email within five working days which will confirm your rates, T’s and C’s, Direct Debit (if you’ve set one up) and the next steps. We’ll also let you know when you’re able to log into your online account and app (you can’t log into these until we let you know it’s time to). If you wanted to download the app you can do so here. Once you’re all set up and you’ve logged in, I’d recommend having a look at our online account/app tutorial series which will answer everything you need to know about managing your account:

I hope you enjoy your time on supply with us, and please do continue to use the Forum whenever you’ve got any questions or thoughts you’d like to share with the community - we’re a helpful bunch here!

If you have any queries about your account and need to speak to customer services at any time, then our Support Team is on hand.

I hope this helps!

Hello. I’ve just moved in (to an address in Scotland, from England). It looks as though OVO is my energy supplier. That’s probably fine _ I DID try to change to British Gas for both gas and electricity, before I moved, but the change got blocked by OVO, perhaps because of a contract already in place. And if the contract’s all right, there may be no reason to switch anyway. But I’ve no paperwork here and don’t know what, if anything, I need to do. Not a lot, perhaps. The previous owner no doubt notified OVO of his leaving date. And the purchase was settled on 25 July – only last Friday – so I may here from OVO soon. But I wouldn’t mind knowing  my account number(s) etc. And I don’t know what I’m meant to do about meter readings.

Again, it’s early days. But I thought it best to start asking, just in case there are steps I need to take. Thanks. DB.

Welcome @d.blakely !

Hope you’re settling into the new place nicely. :)

As for getting your account numbers? You need a NEW account for that. Try https://switch.ovoenergy.com to get set up as that usually allows you to get things going. If that doesn’t work, give 0330 303 5063 a call or use Live Chat via https://ovoenergy.com/help and someone will get you set up. You’ll get a quote at that point so you can pick whatever tariff you fancy.

You can’t leave OVO until you do this per industry rules. Personally, you’re probably better off sticking with OVO rather than going back to BG as I find the service way better, but it’s ultimately your choice. Either way, you need to pay OVO first before you’re allowed to switch away.

Hello Blastoise186! Thanks for your welcome, and for your extremely friendly and helpful reply. I just got used to BG, that’s all. I think OVO is popular around here – my friend from a few streets away is with them. I may well take your advice and stick with them. And I’m going to try live chat now. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try the other links you’ve sent me.

Thanks again.

Regards

DB.

Morning @d.blakely and a warm welcome to the OVO Forum, and to OVO 😁.

Thanks for your helpful advice here @Blastoise186. @d.blakely I hope your move went well! I also moved to Scotland recently from the south of England - it was a bit of a mammoth task! Did you manage to get the account all set up ok? We’d of course love it if you stayed with OVO , but no pressure obviously 😂. If you do switch you’re still welcome to use this Forum for any energy related queries you might have. I’m sure the advisor on webchat probably told you this, but make sure to take some opening readings so that your account is billed from estimates.

I know what you mean about sticking with what you’re comfortable with, but I think you’ll find that an OVO account is a pretty easy thing to manage. We’ve got a great online account / app service that allows you to manage everything, from your Direct Debit to monitoring your usage. I’ve included below a collection of Forum articles that explain how to do various things on the online account and app. These will come in handy if you do decide to stay with us, and will also give you an idea of how everything is set up when you’ve got an OVO account.

Cheers!

I just moved into a new flat and from what I can tell the previous tenants used Ovo for gas (The flat is on find my supplier 4 separate times, the gas box doesn’t show it’s Meter Point Reference Number and the landlord isn’t sure either).. This is the first time I’ve moved out from my parents so have never had to set up any bills before.

I tried to make an account online but am told that I need an account number to make an account (No clue how I’m meant to already have an account number when I have no account), I tried to send an email to sort this and just got an automated response saying you need to have an account to email (Again how am I meant to have an account when I have not account number). I have today tried to call up multiple times and have had the person on the other end hang up on me mid conversation!

The landlord sorts out the electricity bill which is included in rent however, I don’t want to get charged a high lump sum for gas, what am I meant to do to change provider or set up a new payment method when I can’t get in contact at with Ovo without having them end all communication?

Hi @Jae Dennis welcome to the forum.

I see that you want to set up a ‘Gas only’ account with OVO.

The landlord sorts out the electricity bill which is included in rent however, I don’t want to get charged a high lump sum for gas,

To set up a ‘Gas only’ account with OVO you will have to contact support, you can’t set up ‘gas only’ accounts online.

As you seem to be having problems with the phone then try webchat here:

https://www.ovoenergy.com/help#contact_us_container

You will need to have the current meter reading (Tip: Take photos of the reading and keep them as your record - if you are using the webchat you can also upload the photo).

the gas box doesn’t show it’s Meter Point Reference Number and the landlord isn’t sure either

If OVO are the current gas suppliers then they should already know the MPRN, but just in case you may want to look it up before contacting them

Here is a link to a tool to look up your gas supplier, the MPRN, and the gas transporter for your area by entering your postcode and address.

Morning @Jae Dennis and a warm welcome to OVO and to the OVO Forum!!

I hope the move went well and wasn’t too stressful. We’ve got a really helpful community here on the Forum as you’ve probably gathered from @Nukecad’s helpful reply yesterday. Did you manage to get in touch with our Support Team to set up your account? I used to work in Customer Services for OVO and I know that it’s a very simple process for Support to set up so hopefully it was easy enough.

You won’t have online access until your account is all set up. When it is, here are the steps to log into your online account:

  • Visit https://my.ovoenergy.com/login
  • Click ‘Set up account’
  • Enter your email address when prompted
  • You’ll then be sent an email containing a link from which to set up a new password
  • Once you’ve set up a password you’ll have access to the online account
  • You’ll then be able to access the OVO app with the same email address and password

Once you’re all set up here’s a tutorial collection that tells you how to use all features of the online account and app:

I hope this helps, and please do let us know if you have any further questions - we’re always here to help 😁.

You will want to set up a new account - not use the existing one (it may not be paid up for example)

Here’s a guide

Hey @Simonrobertson91

Welcome to the Forum, I’m glad to see one of our very helpful community members has already stopped by with some helpful advice on this for you.

If you’ve not yet done so, you’ll need to get your own account set up, if you follow the topic guide shared by BPLightlog, you’ll be able to get set up.

I’ve also linked below to a couple of other topics which might be helpful to you:

Do let us know if you have any issues getting set up, or if you’ve got any other questions.😊

Hi, first time renting and stumbling my way through what I should do and all that. Just contacted Norther Grid and found out Ovo energy is my electricity supplier. Bummer it's the weekend so I can't contact customer service but would still like to set up my account while I wait. However, I'm being asked to choose a tariff from the account setup page and I'm so confused. What tariff are they referring to here? How do I know what I'm doing is what I should be doing? Any help?

Hi @Nearlysixfeetininches

There is a guide to setting up an account in your new property here:

An account can be setup online, but from what you say above you appear to have found that option already.

As for the Tariff then it depends on what you need.
If the heating is electric, particularly if it’s storage heaters, then you may want a multi rate tariff.

Otherwise then unless it is a Top-Up PAYG meter at your new property I’d set up the account for the Standard Variable Tariff to start with - at OVO it’s called ‘Simpler Energy’.

Once things are up and running then you can look at changing to a different tariff if you want to.

Obviously if it’s a PAYG meter then you would need to get a PAYG tariff,
There are multi-rate PAYG tariffs for those with storage heaters.

If you put your postcode into here, and then set the Filters to either ‘All/Standard/multi-rate’ for the meter, and the second filter to your preferred payment method. then it will show you the tariffs available for those filters at your address:
https://plans.ovoenergy.com/

Please ask away if you have any more questions.
