Smart meter can't connect despite 6 different comms hubs, is there anything else I can do to get the meter to connect?

… in order to get the gas meter onto the local HAN …

What did n3rgy’s Homebrew say?

n3rgy’s says

Gas Proxy Function

  • Warning: Device configuration has not been completed [INSTALLED_NOT_COMMISSIONED] - OK if no Gas Meter is installed

Thanks this is more or less what I thought

Sorry I missed this …

I can’t see that you’ve asked Support to have the gas meter commissioned on to the HAN. There’s not likely to be any communication problem between the GSME and the GPF. Have they tried? What was the result (other than ‘it didn’t work …’)?

Don't worry about it. long story short, electricity meter, coms hub and IHD replaced.

LAN established, electricity meter and IHD connected., installer left site. When asked about the gas meter connection he said all the relevant information had been passed to the DCC. I took him at his word and  assumed the gas usage would show on the IHD later, it didn’t obviously which prompted all the subsequent questions/correspondence.

When I used the n3rgy utility from Homebrew the gas meter did not show up but two electricity meters did with the statement “If you see multiple devices of the same type, its likely that your energy supplier has got into a bit of a pickle when trying to install and configure your smart meter” It also contained the statement I previously advised as follows:-

“Gas Proxy Function

  • Warning: Device configuration has not been completed [INSTALLED_NOT_COMMISSIONED] - OK if no Gas Meter is installed”

I have forwarded a copy of the n3rgy utility report to my supplier and asked them to arrange for the gas meter to be commissioned by the DCC at the earliest opportunity.

Thanks again to everyone

Is your supplier not OVO? I’ve no idea how other suppliers operate, but OVO’s support staff are trained to handle basic tasks like commissioning an IHD or a GPF. If the agent concerned doesn’t know what to do, someone who does isn’t far away. In some cases this is best carried out during a phone call, because you might need to do something during the process. That’s why I asked what the result of asking support for help had been.

Sorry. misunderstood, no my supplier is not OVO.

All the communication between the installer and the DCC whilst “commissioning” is done via a “chat” application on his mobile device. The installer is not allowed to communicate directly with the people at DCC head office, it is “frowned upon” if they do so.

Thanks again sorry if I’ve wasted anyone's time

I wonder which of us has misunderstood. The meter engineer carrying out the installation uses his app, so far as I’m aware, to connect to the appropriate people at the supplier’s HQ, not DCC. This is because some of the changes being made to your equipment need elevated permissions which installation engineers don’t have but suppliers do. DCC have nothing to do with the installation. Once it’s complete, DCC will acquire the details - the ones you can retrieve using the n3rgy Homebrew utility - so that they can route data to and from the right devices (each with its unique MAC address) with the appropriate permissions (certificates stored on the meter concerned). DCC are only there to ensure that only those with the right credentials can make changes to your installation and retrieve data from your meter.

If the installation is incomplete, as in your case, it’s the supplier’s job to complete it. In most cases, this is done remotely - site visits aren’t necessary.

Not at all, everyone is welcome here regardless of which supplier they get their energy from.

Some of the top helpers here are with other suppliers than OVO.

Will do, my supplier has been made aware of the situation and hopefully will correct sooner rather than later.

Thanks again

Update:

The gas meter has been commissioned and is now connected to the HAN, the “Gas LED” on the communications hub is now illuminated.

On the actual gas meter display the reading shows the volume of gas imported since November 2022 but only shows the cost of the gas used since commissioning i.e. 26th September 2025. (which is probably to be expected).

The IHD display provided by the installer only shows the electricity consumption, the gas consumption is not displayed n this device.

Nice!

Get OVO to run XJoin against the network - that’ll get the IHD to pull down everything!
