New Smart Meters

Hi. I’ve just had smart meters installed today by an OVO engineer. I was just wondering how long it takes for the smart meters to register to my account so I can top up the electricity one? It’s on emergency credit at the moment, but I really want to sort this out today to write off the emergency credit and be assured that I can use the app to top up? I can’t yet top up with the app, as my account hasn’t been updated. Also, if I go into a shop and top up, will this activate the credit?

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Hi @NessaS123 and thanks for your post.

When you have smart meters installed, it can take up to six weeks for the meter details to all be updated on your account. This timeframe is due to background administration that must be carried out by OVO and the wider Industry. However, this process is normally a lot quicker than six weeks, and is often just a few days. Once the meters are fully updated on your account, you’ll then have full access to the app, and will be able to top up.

Until the meters are updated as outlined above, they should be in ‘credit’ mode, meaning that they won’t run out of credit whilst we get everything updated. If your electricity smart meter is in emergency credit, then it sounds as if everything is all updated. Please delete the app from your device, and reinstall it, and then reset your password, as if you’re logging in for the first time. Once you’ve done this, let us know if it’s all working as it should be. If it isn’t please contact our Support Team who’ll look into what’s going on for you.

Let us know how you get on.
