Is OVO definitely able to install a SMETS2 gas meter in place of the existing dumb meter in our semi-concealed Actaris undergound box (photo enclosed)?

Our Actaris semi-concealed

box looks to be similar to this one:

https://www.gasequipmentdirect.co.uk/product/national-grid-transco-brown-semi-concealed-gas-meter-box-430-x-480-x-330mm/?campaignid=11814343651&keyword=zmisc0460z&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwxNW2BhAkEiwA24Cm9LHlIvQ-XaFxfg0CuKyXAf2AT--OAF_mU7PqsOWRdpC2BTz1Cq484BoCspoQAvD_BwE

Our current meter sits in an underground space within the box of width 240mm length 280mm.  The present dumb meter itself is approx. 300mm in height.

OVO Energy states typical dimensions of SMETS2 gas meter is width 235 height 262 diameter (?) 167 (mm) so I do not understand how that would fit in or how we would be able to read the volume of gas used on the front of a smart gas meter (such as a Flonidan/Honeywell Gas meter) itself.   Would OVO supply a meter on which the reading could be seen from above?  I would not want to have to rely only upona remote display inside the house, or at least not until I have confidence everything is working correctly.

We need to know the make and type of meter that would be installed BEFORE booking an installation.  Having read about the problems described on this Forum by others with semi-concealed boxes, I feel that is just too risky for us to book an installation and just hope for the best.

I would appreciate a response from someone who can help provide some reliable information on this, soon if possible as we recently signed up for a new tariff stipulating the fitting of smart meters as compulsory.  Only a few cooling-off days remain before we would have to cancel.  I have tried to get answers from OVO online help but to no avail and it is not clear who to contact at OVO or how regarding this type of technical question.

Thanks.

Hi @Bill Halford ,

Bear with me, I think I know just the person for this.

Got a sec @Lukepeniket_OVO ? This sounds like it’s one for you. :)

Although your Semi-concealed box is slightly different @Bill Halford we can and do fit L&G G470 gas meters in them.

A lot of the data on the forums is outdated as we use multiple manufacturers nowadays for our smart assets. Im very confident you can go ahead and book this appointment and the smart gas would be fitted.

Thank you all. @Blastoise186

Thanks for the reassurance Lukepeniket_OVO and for coming back to me so quickly.

Thanks Luke! :D
