Accessing reel-time data from my gas and electricity for home assistant

Hi, I was wondering if these been any update on getting real-time data out of the smart meters, I believe mine were the earlier ones fitted by OVO and Ive only got the original monochrome display.

Ive had a CT clamp on the meter tail to measure current but I need a way to obtain the live gas flow.

There was some talk a few years back of the earlier smart meters being upgraded to the newer models.

Any ideas would be much appreciated?

@BPLightlog has turned home assistance into a way of life (have a look at his avatar!). If anyone can advise you, I’m sure he can.

* I knew you were monitoring me Noel. *

No, unfortunately, I don’t know of anyone who has been able to get better than 30 min data from a gas meter.
There are several others looking into monitoring various flows (eg. water) but there is no significant effort for gas as it is seen as having a limited lifespan and given the nature of it, there is difficulty in any direct intervention.

There may well be flow meters which can be used in line but the smart meter itself - with a restricted readout due to being battery powered - isn’t designed to give more frequent readings.

Yes I thought that would still be the case, I guess I. was hoping for some advance. 30 mins data is better than the day after data I was using a while back. Where can I find information on that please.

I use an MQTT feed via a Hildebrand Glow IHD. I’m not sure that you can get anything without an interface (ie direct from the meter) as there are security restrictions for connection.

A ‘standard’ IHD would not give this unfortunately

There are two types of gas usage report. The meter measures volume (cubic metres) which is available whenever it reports to the smart meter or about a day later when it had been converted to energy (kWh) after it's calorific value has been determined.
