Question

Why have my Power Move entries last month disappeared?

Hello. New Power Move subscriber here.

My first month was very short, as I signed near the end of the calender month. But I still managed to win £2credit on 4%.

Last month, my first full month, I achieved 13 entries with a 2.8% score. Or so I thought. The last day of the month - that is what the Ovo app showed. I'm a low user anyway, but for those two hours all I was running was the fridge. Everything else switched off and unplugged.

But then the entries disappeared from the app, and it now tells me that last month I had 0 entries. I'm worried that all those entries have vanished from the system, not been entered, and that this may happen again at the end of this month.

Wondering if it's worth the extra hassle if the system of entries doesn't seem to work and the app is unreliable. I have smart meter readings set to half-hourly and my meter is working fine.

Is this a common glitch? Or only for new members?

I think there is a bug in the app as mine says 0% usage and im a very low user but 0% is not correct. Yesterday it said I had 5 entries.

Im sure it will correct itself

Morning @Isthisworthit & @alinbongo54,

The teams just reached out to me this morning with good news—they’ve spotted the issue and are already on it. They've assured me that all your data is safe; it’s just a little hiccup in getting it from your account to the dashboard, which is why it’s showing zero. As soon as we get confirmation that everything is fixed, I’ll swing back and let you know. Thanks so much for flagging this for us

Thanks @Chris_OVO and @alinbongo54

Will our entries be included in the draw?

Another question if it's ok - with 13 entries is it reasonable to expect to win something? If only a £2credit? My first month I won £2 with only 4 entries, but guessed this was probably a 'welcome newbie' incentive?

Is it worth doing each month? If there's £2 a month adding to the credit, then it helps marginally on low income. Or is it a case of 13 or 14 entries monthly for six months say, without any win?

Thanks for your help.

Great news - I did contact OVO as I was curious and was advised that I had used no electricity, which I found rather hard to believe, all month ….

It is a totally random draw, as I’m sure Chris_OVO will confirm.

So you might win a prize, even the top prize, with only one entry, or you might not win anything with 13  or 14 entries.

If you don;t win something this month there is always next month.

PS. Since it went to a prize draw I haven’t really been trying (like I used to when it was a set of fixed rewards depending on percentage). However I have still won a £2 prize 11 times out of 13 months.

PPS. Mine is also currently showing zeros for Aprils usage and off-peak percentage in the app, no doubt they will sort it out soon. (My own record shows 7% so that would be 8 entries).

I have the same problem - numbers shown on 30th April and when I checked on 4th May it indicated no usage or entries for April.

Why did OVO change from the original system when you WERE rewarded for your efforts to one where you may or may not be?

Personally, I don't think the 'new' system is worth it, the hassle of keeping up with our usage !!!  Before, the benefits of keeping track was well worth it !!!  £10 off your bill if you qualified!!!  Now it's a max of £2 !!!  Not worth the hassle even though I still try to use my utilities with care.  But then that's just my opinion !!!  Mike H. 😎

As I have previously said,  to be honest of this lottery system  have checked last year v this year  and having done the same with active timers shutting off Freezers etc I find I am over £20 worse off. I have been impacted harder by getting rid of sky ( this used to turn on at 7 pm)and using less as the sky Q box uses a lot more than people think . This means the peak usage is a higher %  even though the overal KWh is less.  For me its defiantly not been worth the hassle

Hey all,

I have an update to share from the Power Move team:

We're working to fix the issue, and you’ll be able to see your results soon. Don’t worry, the prize draw will happen once everything is sorted. All your data is safe and sound in our systems, so nothing has been lost in terms of your progress, as long as your meter has been sending readings.

Thanks for your patience.

The rationale behind the scheme is, of course, to encourage customers to use less energy when the demand on the National Grid is the greatest. The incentive to be rewarded for doing so in the most recent incarnation of Power Move has, I feel, been reduced that, even people like me that support the rationale, and who have benefited from real rewards in the past, sometimes think “Blow it! I am hungry NOW!!” I suspect that there are those who are still part of the scheme who no longer treat it seriously and I also suspect that many have left completely.

I understand that there were some people whose family/lifestyle situations made achieving any reward on the previous schemes difficult or almost impossible. I am not sure that making it a lottery where, if you use, less than 15% of your energy (Mon-Fri (excluding Bank Holidays whose use does not even count at all!)) you can get an entry “ticket” which has the same chance, of course, of winning a reward as each individual entry “ticket” of someone with 15 of them is really a great incentive to take part.

I had my smart meters installed in late September 2023, so October 2023 was the first month that I was able to take part in the Power Move scheme. These are my yearly rewards since then:

2023; £45 (average £15 per month)

2024: £133 (average £11.08 per month) The top reward was reduced during this year

2025: 24 (average £2 per month) This is when the lottery started

2026(so far): £7 (average £2.33 per month)

Apart from shifting our usage as demanded by the times for each iteration of the scheme, our usage has remained pretty similar for each year.

Perhaps, it is true that gamblers never really win!

Just to catch up on some of the points in the thread:

It is a totally random draw, as I’m sure Chris_OVO will confirm.

I can confirm, as Nukecad pointed out, that the draw is random and automated.

Is it worth doing each month? If there's £2 a month adding to the credit, then it helps marginally on low income. Or is it a case of 13 or 14 entries monthly for six months say, without any win?

I totally understand that this is a personal opinion, but I really think it doesn’t cost anything to get involved! The main goals are to help everyone better understand how energy loads work and how we can all pitch in during peak periods. Plus, there’s a chance to earn some fun monetary rewards without too much effort. So, I’d say it’s definitely worth it.

Why did OVO change from the original system when you WERE rewarded for your efforts to one where you may or may not be?

The old Power Move system just wasn't working well anymore, especially for our lower energy users who struggled to meet the targets. But since we made some changes, we've seen a fantastic increase in the number of Power Movers! The feedback has been really positive, and we’re excited about how it’s all coming together.

Ovo app still shows 0 entries for last month. Must be a big buggy problem to fix. Good luck @Chris_OVO and the team.

I'll keep on with the Power Move for a few months. But it seems unfair if it's not great for those who go to maximum effort to unplug our homes for the 2 hours. I wonder whether the lottery could be structured better with higher value prizes? A nawful lot of £2 prizes. Why not anything between £15 and the Big Tamale? The prize fund could adapt to 100 x £100 etc.

Yay, Ovo app now corrected. Thanks @Chris_OVO and the team.

And I received £2 reward.

Morning @Isthisworthit,

I'm so glad to hear that everything is working again and showing up on the app and congratulations on being a winner. I've passed on your gratitude to @Ashley_OVO behind the scenes who's the real hero and got everything back on track as quickly as possible.

Keep up that wonderful energy shifting 🎉
