Struggling to achieve Power Move target!

Updated on 15/01/26 by Abby_OVO

As a single pensioner I have never used appliances during peak time, apart from the electric oven a few days a week to cook a meal. The only way I could reduce usage is to eat before 4pm, too early, or after 7 pm, too late! Some meals I can cook on gas hob or in microwave but that doesn’t reduce usage enough. Any suggestions anyone?

I think that 2versus1 is correct. Power Move isn't for me.

Do parents coming home from work at 5 with kids yelling for their dinner and putting their pcs and tvs on,  manage to win ?

Never mind I'll continue  to do my bit between 2 and 4am.

Hey ho,  wonder if I can persuade hubby to have sandwiches for his dinner after a hard day's grafting. 😏

Thanks all.

Hi @Linds and @Swift92 Its not always possible to meet the 13.5% target, as @2versus1 says.

Have you sat down with paper and pencil to work out your combined percentage over, say, the three days 1st - 3rd November (using the half-hourly figures in your OVO account usage page), just out of interest for yourselves? I know @Swift92 is particularly interested in yesterday (good idea to compare microwave cooking versus oven), but it could be that you might be nearer to the 13.5% than you think? And there are strategies for further tweaks, some great suggestions elsewhere in this forum.

And as @IanFerguson suggests above (sorry, hadn’t seen your post before I replied)…

Great stuff  @Nukecad …oh, and @Linds, I forgot to remind you, make sure your 2AM - 4AM washing/tumbling etc. sessions are on a weekday morning, not a Sat or Sun (or any of the December Bank Holidays)!

Impossible to achieve  reduction In power between 4 and 7 pm. I work from home until 5, my husband wants his dinner before 7. I already only use appliances like washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher between 2 and 4 am.

So what else can I do?

Why 2am -4am for the washing?

Had my email today 14.59% which is down from 15.5% last month. Not sure what more we can do, used washer, TD, DW outside of 4-7 Mon-Fri. 2 weeks out of 4 shifts mean only me in house so sat in dark starving 🤯. Will try again this month. Would be good to be able to download the data and double check myself.

On a positive note since fixed tariff ended and on extortionate tariff have achieved overall reduction of 1000 KWH for both gas and electric. Thank God for multi fuel stove that keeps house warm, fuel paid for by credit back last year

Can’t hit my target at all. I mainly use a slow cooker and cook outside of the 4-7 slot, don’t have a tumble drier, wash at 7.30 am and only put heating on for an hour in the morning. I work from home and can’t see how I can use less. Set up to fail I think. I’ll try for another month, but I use as little as possible now...Don’t think I can reduce it unless I turn off my TV and sit in silence in the evenings.
