Power Move is changing 1 October, here’s everything you need to know

Power Move is going back to guaranteed rewards

Power Move is moving away from the monthly prize draw to a points based system. Instead of earning prize draw entries when you use your energy at off-peak times, you’ll now earn guaranteed points.

Instead of earning prize entries for a chance to win, you will now earn guaranteed points every single month you hit your 85% or higher off-peak usage targets. Your points stack up in a dedicated wallet and can be redeemed for bill credits or free hours of electricity.

We'll also be introducing weekly targets, so you can pick up bonus points along the way.

NEW: Power Move challenges will be coming soon to earn even more points

You may have the chance to take part in weekly challenges where you are asked to either shift more of your electricity usage to off-peak times compared to the previous 7 days, or maintain your off-peak electricity usage at the same level as the previous 7 days.

You will be rewarded with bonus points based on how much more you’ve shifted into off-peak times

Peak to off-peak

Currently, Power Move encourages customers to use less during peak times. From 1 October, this will change to shifting more of your electricity into off-peak times.

We’ve flipped the focus to highlight the positive choices you're making.

Previously, Power Move asked you to keep your peak electricity usage below 15%. Now, we’re tracking and rewarding your off-peak usage, challenging you to hit 85% or more of your total monthly electricity during these hours.

The core logic hasn't changed, if you are using 15% or less during peak hours, it means you are using 85% or more during off-peak hours.

Focusing on off-peak targets allows us to reward you for the positive actions you take to shift your energy, rather than just telling you what to avoid.

Changes to how customers with Charge Anytime take part in Power Move

Customers who have Charge Anytime are still eligible to take part in Power Move. However, electricity used for charging your EV will not be used in the final monthly calculation. Only your in-home usage will count towards your off-peak/peak electricity usage from 1 October.

What about the final Prize Draw for September?

The final prize draw will be held at the start of October for the month of September, after that there will be no more prize draws. If you’ve won a year’s free energy and haven’t received all 12 monthly payments, you’ll continue to receive these payments until the final 12th payment is made to you.

Am I eligible?

To Power Move, customers must:

  • Be with OVO for their electricity (dual fuel customers are eligible)
  • Have a smart meter and pay by direct debit
  • Have half-hourly readings enabled and be half-hourly settled
  • Be on a single-rate tariff (multi-rate tariffs aren't included right now)

We’ve made no changes to the Power Move eligibility.

Do I need to do anything?

Yes, if you want to earn points through Power Move, you'll need to sign up in the OVO app from 1 October.

We’ve got more exciting news to follow so stay tuned!

What has not been made clear here is that the points rewards will only be worth from 20p to a maximum of £2!

Hey @nuttyneil

Power Move won’t be the only way to earn points, you’ll be able to stack up points from other things - we’ll have more information on this come 1 October. Plus, Power Move will introduce additional challenges which will give you the chance to earn more through Power Move but instead of the prize draw, these rewards are guaranteed and not left to chance.

So to take part, you need the app? What a swindle! I won't be downloading the app and so I won't be taking part. Stop trying to force apps on us.

Hey @Ceri_C

Power Move has been part of the app since 2024, the team are always looking into how customers who don’t have the app can take part so that’s something that may come down the line.
