A good strategy. Not heating the house overnight means the average temperature of the house is lower and hence lower losses, lower heating bills.

I’ve just looked on my app and it appears that it has changed.

I suspect that it’s a mistake, it usually changes on Sunday to allow you to choose your 2-days for the next week

If it’s a mistake it will be probably be corrected later.

I’ve asked the forum mods to look into it for us.

It used to say that it would run to 31st August, and when showing how many you had already chosen indicated that there would be 34 hours altogether.

ie. It was showing me last week that I had chosen 32 and there would be another 2 to choose.

However although it still says ‘until 31st August’ at the top, its now saying 32 hours claimed, with the last being next Sundy, 24th August and no more to be claimed/chosen.

Hey @Nukecad

Thanks for flagging that last night, I checked with one of the Beyond team who have said it doesn’t look quite right.

I’ve sent you a Private Message so we can try and help, you can view it here.

This morning it’s back to showing 32 hours claimed with 2 yet to claim, (which I’ve now done), so whatever the issue was it’s been corrected.
Thanks Beyond Free Energy team.

And with the 2 final hours selected:

I find it all too complicated. I try to opt in to everything available but still get nothing. It's not worth the effort frankly.

Hey @Vickiplum

I’m sorry you’re finding it confusing, I appreciate there is a lot going on, this is very helpful feedback. Our community members have provided some helpful advice:

Power Move Flex and the two free hours per week are two different trials. You don't have to opt in to the two free hours, you just have to select which of the available hours you want, on the app, each week. Shifting electricity is the Power Move Flex, which you do have to opt into each time when you receive an email about a power move up or down . Which are you asking about?

So there are three differemt schemes being discussed in this topic:

1. OVO Beyond

  • A free rewards programme for OVO customers with a smart meter and Direct Debit

  • Offers a variety of perks: up to 5 free solar panels, free boiler servicing, discounts, prizes, even VIP event tickets

  • Summer bonus (5 May – 31 August 2025): Get 2 hours of free electricity each week—you choose the slots via the app; credits applied to your bill (1 kWh per hour max)

2. Power Move Rewards

  • A challenge to reduce electricity use during peak hours (typically 4 pm–7 pm, Mon–Fri

  • To qualify, use less than 12.5% of your daily electricity in that period; earnings are credited (£20/month is typical)

  • Requires: OVO app + Beyond unlocked, smart meter, single-rate tariff, Direct Debit, opt-in to half-hourly reads

3. Power Move Flex (free electricity variant)

  • Part of a trial called CrowdFlex (via Ofgem and ESO), focused on matching demand to renewable supply

  • Free electricity is offered during certain flex events—but note it’s capped at 1 kWh per hour, and only applies to certain slots separate from Beyond’s free hours

  • This is not the same as Power Move Rewards. Make sure to confirm which scheme you're signed up to—Power Move Flex may apply only when you receive an email invitation for specific events

Hey @ctify,

What Is the Free Electricity?

  • During the Summer Savings promotion (from 5 May to 31 August 2025), OVO Beyond members receive 2 hours of free electricity each week. That translates to up to 8 hours per month.

  • Each of those hours is capped at 1 kWh, meaning you can get up to 2 kWh of free electricity per week, or about 8 kWh per month.

How to Use It & Slot Details

  • You must opt into the Beyond programme and choose your free electricity slots via the OVO app or your online account.

  • Typical time slots include:
  • Weekdays: e.g., 9 am–10 am, 1 pm–2 pm, or 9 pm–10 pm
  • Weekends: e.g., 10 am–12 pm on Sundays
  • Slots are offered weekly, and you need to select them each week for the upcoming week.

Hi,

so to clear things up, it is definitely the gas that causes the spike (added a pic of our gas as well, highlighted is the 1hr30its on in evenings to heat the water tank). We don’t have a combi boiler, just water tank heated by gas and I’ve looked up the timer is 30min at 7am

1hr30 at 5.30pm…

Definitely not heating coming on, we’ve turned this off completely for the summer.

looking at solely electricity it looks like we must have signal issues some days (when we get hours with no usage) but on a day it does work, looks more like this.

but I sat and actually looked back over July electricity data, the free hours that I’d put into my calender, which was 7hours. But based on the data that equaled just over 2kw @22.23kwh unit rate so 44.5p, so the July bill is incorrect as that was  credit 0.8p from beyond- 2hours free electricity.

let’s see if it’s more accurate for August. There was nothing in June but that was the first month we had a smart meter, so perhaps the 2hours we had selected from the options in the last week of June, just hadn’t had the chance to register in the systems.

Would love to know if it’s been more accurate for August? 🙂

Remember that the credit for free kWh doesn't show until the next months bill.

The free kWh earned in May were shown as a credit on the June bill.
The free kWh earned in June were shown as a credit on the July bill
The free kWh earned in July should be showing as a credit on your current bill for August.
The free kWh being earned in August will be shown as a credit on your bill for September.

So that 0.8p ? credit that you say you go on your July bill will have been for what you earned in June after your smart meter was sending readings.
(PS. Bills don’t show part of a penny, is it not £0.80)

What you earned in July should now be showing on your billing for this month.

I have nothing to add to this query other than Impressive Speadsheets and all the calculations, and time spent

Have any of you thought about a career in forensic accounting.
I worked as Financial Controller Large part of my working life involved in accounts and I’m truly impressed by the amount of work & effort you all put into this.

🤔I thought it was just me, that did all these type of calculations. I drive my family up the wall.

Good Luck solving your query/ies
