What happens if I don’t use an RTI? (PayPoint credit message)

I was struggling to top up my key meter until payday and got in touch with OVO. I was given an RTI to get £75 credit but the repayment rate on the meter is £3.50 a day. I realised that due to the high energy costs and the fact I’m all electric heating this repayment rate will leave me in a worse situation than ever so I don’t intend to use it. It was only for a couple of days anyway. I’d rather switch my heating off! I’m getting a new pay as you go smart meter on Thursday.

Am I correct in assuming that if I don’t use this RTI code and continue to top up then nothing will happen?

An RTI will last for about six months but, if your RTI doesn’t work, please contact our Support Team who will issue another code. If you have traditional Pay As You Go meters, we’d recommend getting a smart meter installed, as they’re much easier to use and can be topped up via our app.

Hi @Flora48 ,

If you have NOT yet added the RTI to your Key, nothing happens and I can pretty much promise you that. I’d still recommend you ask OVO to revoke the RTI though, just to be on the safe side. If it was for Discretionary Credit of any type, I’d definitely recommend letting OVO know you changed your mind about using it so it can be properly retracted.

If it’s already on the key, contact OVO immediately for advice on what to do.

In some cases, you can just choose to accept the RTI anyway and just leave the credit on the Meter so that it eventually just clears itself out. However, you don’t have to do this and if you decide you don’t want to use the RTI, then I would generally recommend just getting it cancelled instead.
