Government levy fixed rate changes now showing on online account?

I noticed on my Plan Page of my online account that some changes have been made. I understand WHY they have been made, but I have not had any input on these changes.

“Thanks for staying with us” is a bit presumptuous when I have a) not received any details about this new One Year Fixed Rate Plan which is going to start on April 1st and b) not been asked to accept the changes.

The Fixed Rate Plan I did accept was due to end on August 6th 2026.

I am surprised this has been done before any details have been received by me.

Hey @Bendog

This change is part of the government levy changes, and will have no impact change to the end date of the fixed contract you agreed to and is not being cancelled early.

The current rates you pay will change as of 1 April, the teams are currently working in the background to make sure everyone’s correct, new rates are ready to be applied from 1 April which means we do have to change the contract, so we can queue up the new rates with the discount, which will have your original end date applied. You’ll receive an email or letter soon explaining more about including terms and contract end date which will remain the same as before.

Sorry for any confusion this may have caused, I hope this helps clear that up.

You can find out more about the Government levy on our website here, and in this previous Forum topic:

I have just read in the press that:

Household energy bills will increase by almost a fifth when the price cap is next updated in July, according to energy market experts.  Cornwall Insight has published its latest forecast for the energy price cap, ahead of a fall in gas and electricity bills coming into effect tomorrow.

“The April price cap was set at £1,641 per year for a typical UK home by energy regulator Ofgem before the war in Iran resulted in a spike in costs.

That spike will likely instead be taken into account when the fresh cap is announced in a matter of weeks, ahead of it coming into effect in July.  According to Cornwall Insight, that will mean an increase of £288 or 18% in annual bills.“

so Ovo will seemingly be making changes to contracts again shortly

Fixed Rate Contracts won’t be affected by price increases as long as you lock in before they’re made. That has never changed and will never change.

It’s likely this current adjustment will be very, VERY rare.

I notice that today the My Plan page in the app shows the revised rates.  In my case, I have a dual rate electricity meter, but I am on single rate tariff, so previously the plan showed identical peak and off peak rates.  The new plan page only lists a peak rate.  I am left guessing what the off peak rate is.

I would suggest to contact customer service and double-check with them your tariff. It’s possible that you are on the single tariff now.

Hey @ianbar

Sorry to hear about this, I’d definitely agree with costeek in reaching out to the Support Team to double check this and correct it if needed.

I’d hope it’s maybe just a visual error that might need updating or hopefully a simple fix for the team.

Do let us know how you get on with that and if it resolves to the correct peak and off-peak.

Evening

I am also having this issue. First my plan to Sept 26 started stating it was ending on 31st March. Now it has disappeared totally. Sounds like a bit of a mess up on the admin front. I will monitor and if not a temporary blip I will make further enquires

Mine was like this earlier on April 1st, but I think it is all back to normal now. When you say that your Direct Debit has been increased, have you received an email to tell you about this increase?
