Surely if my 1 year fixed loyalty rate still has 3 months to go I will continue to benefit from the very low 22.62 p per kWh I locked in for a year late in June  2025 …

You actually do better than that, because the 22.65 should fall next week to 19.31 and stay at that level until your fixed term expires in June.

I have the same and it is unnecessarily confusing. Did someone actually make the decision to present it in this way? The comms from OVO on this good news reduction in electricity prices has been lacking / unhelpful.

Thank you Firedog - at last some clarity is beginning to dawn! I seem to have to wrestle with OVO every year these days before I get a satisfactory resolution of my rights as a loyal customer. Is now a good time (wrt disruption in global energy, climate change arguments, resale value of my 1983 house etc) to consider ditching the old gas boiler and upgrading to an ASHP with a brand new well insulated hot water cylinder/immersion heater to ‘top up’ bathing and washing up water etc plus maybe even new more suitable radiators? If so which are the best suppliers and installer of ASHPs. Daikin, Vaillant, Worcester - Bosch, Mitsubishi  et alia or even consider the Octopus system solution. AND Finally, how about ‘ hoping and praying’ for the long awaited UK rollout of the V2G plus V2H system, already working well for over 18 months in France, using a suitably equipped small BEV like the Renault 5 E-Tech, with an up to date CCS2 Bi directional home charger installed in my garage since the old Chademo Nissan Leaf system is well on the way out?

I’ve just noticed that my fixed rate contract has changed too.   In September 2025 I fixed and had two confirmation emails, one for gas and one for electric, saying We’re pleased to let you know your new fixed-rate plan will start on 01 October 2025

Extended fixed 14 month plan.

end date 30 November 2026

Gas unit rate 6.43p/kWh, standing charge 27.98p/day

Electric unit rate 6.43p/kWh, standing charge 63.86p/day

The Ovo app is now stating an end date of 31st March 2026, some seven months before the fixed contract end date.

Ive had an email from Ovo saying that bills will go discounted from April and it gives an estimate of overall savings but it doesn’t give any details of the revised unit rates.  They give a link of gov.uk/your-energy-bill

That says:

If you are on a fixed price tariff

Suppliers have confirmed that the savings will be passed on in full to customers on fixed price tariffs.

This means if you are already on a fixed price tariff on 1 April, your tariff will be amended so that savings are applied to your unit rates going forward. Your energy supplier will contact you to confirm your new rates.

For anyone signing a new fixed price tariff after 1 April, we expect the savings to be taken into account.

So, I’d like to know from Ovo what the new unit rates are?

@Paul4AA I think you may have mistyped your unit rate for electricity. You’ll learn what the new ones are very soon, but meanwhile, my best guess is that your new unit rates will be 3.34p/kWh lower for electricity, 0.31p/kWh lower for gas. The standing charges shouldn’t change. You can check this by taking your Future Annual Consumption figures from your Plan page, multiplying each by the unit rate and adding 365 standing charges, then add 5% VAT. The result should be within a pound or so of the figure given in your email.

Please come back and tell us what they are when you do find out.

Well spotted, my electric unit rate is 23.36 p/kwh

I have just read in the press that:

Household energy bills will increase by almost a fifth when the price cap is next updated in July, according to energy market experts.  Cornwall Insight has published its latest forecast for the energy price cap, ahead of a fall in gas and electricity bills coming into effect tomorrow.

“The April price cap was set at £1,641 per year for a typical UK home by energy regulator Ofgem before the war in Iran resulted in a spike in costs.

That spike will likely instead be taken into account when the fresh cap is announced in a matter of weeks, ahead of it coming into effect in July.  According to Cornwall Insight, that will mean an increase of £288 or 18% in annual bills.“

so Ovo will seemingly be making changes to contracts again shortly

Fixed Rate Contracts won’t be affected by price increases as long as you lock in before they’re made. That has never changed and will never change.

It’s likely this current adjustment will be very, VERY rare.

I notice that today the My Plan page in the app shows the revised rates.  In my case, I have a dual rate electricity meter, but I am on single rate tariff, so previously the plan showed identical peak and off peak rates.  The new plan page only lists a peak rate.  I am left guessing what the off peak rate is.

I would suggest to contact customer service and double-check with them your tariff. It’s possible that you are on the single tariff now.

Hey @ianbar

Sorry to hear about this, I’d definitely agree with costeek in reaching out to the Support Team to double check this and correct it if needed.

I’d hope it’s maybe just a visual error that might need updating or hopefully a simple fix for the team.

Do let us know how you get on with that and if it resolves to the correct peak and off-peak.

Today most information is missing from my online account, Plan details have been removed, Smart meter readings are missing , bill not updated but direct debit increased despite unit costs been reduced.

Can some explain please

Evening

I am also having this issue. First my plan to Sept 26 started stating it was ending on 31st March. Now it has disappeared totally. Sounds like a bit of a mess up on the admin front. I will monitor and if not a temporary blip I will make further enquires

Mine was like this earlier on April 1st, but I think it is all back to normal now. When you say that your Direct Debit has been increased, have you received an email to tell you about this increase?

Hey @Johnchisholm @daleheaton

Sorry to hear this has impacted both of you, I did check in with the team who’ve said this should now be resolved, like @Bendog’s did.

If you could check and let us know if it’s resolved itself as it should have, do pop back and let us know.

Hi Thanks for the input, all is well except the Smart Meter monitor is showing 79.23 pence per day when it should be 75.46 pence per day according to my plan.

Hey @Johnchisholm,

It might be a good idea to take a look at the settings on your in-home display to see if there’s a reset option available. Usually, it should automatically update with any changes in rates, but if you’d like to speed things up, doing a quick reset can help! I’ll share some links to helpful guides for different in-home displays below.

I’ve just had an email from Ovo saying that my direct debit has just increased by 11% today despite going into the summer when we use slightly less electricity and much less gas so one can be suspect that they’re planning for the future price cap increase.   They claim:

These are the possible reasons for why your payments need to go up.

  • Your home is using more energy than predicted

  • Your energy prices have changed or they will soon, to stay in line with the price cap

  • You’ve moved to a different tariff

  • You're likely to have less than a month's credit in your energy account by 31 March

  • You've missed a monthly payment, lowered your Direct Debit, or got a refund recently

I have my energy recorded for the past fifteen years or so and consumption hasn’t changed dramatically but a general downwards trend with improvements made to the house.   My current credit however seems a bit lower than normal.

Do any of these things apply?

For instance, when the next DD review will happen for me, it will be just after the new price cap change for July and about a month before the end of my current fixed rate. This will probably mean for me that any change to my Direct Debit will be calculated using the standard variable rate tariff for July. I suspect that this will mean an increase in my DD will happen. However, I am hoping that I will be able to minimise this increase by continuing to pay my present DD although it is more than OVO suggested I should lower it to. On each bill you receive, there is a statement about your energy use for the same month last year. Perhaps looking at these might help too?

I don’t think this is true. From what I’ve managed to glean over many years is that the DD is calculated solely on the basis of the rates currently applying for the tariff in force*. Applying these rates to the Future Annual Consumption figures will reveal the projected annual cost.

*   I’m not sure if this happened at the end of last month (March 2026), but for the past couple of years we’ve seen the DD calculator get a bit smarter: in the last couple of weeks before a change in the price cap, the projected cost has taken the forthcoming increase into account from the start of the new price-cap period.

Thanks for your help here @Bendog / @Firedog. Let’s hope that any increase in July won’t be too substantial. As usual, we’ll contact all customers on the variable plan to let them know about the new rates, when we know them.

@Paul4AA I’m not sure where you’re based but I know where I am we’ve had a far colder than expected start to April and also March, bar the odd nice day. My usage has been a lot higher than it was this time last year, due to my heating being on etc. It might be the case that the increase to the Direct Debit is only temporary, and it’ll come down again after you build some more credit over the coming warmer months.

I am a data nerd and have, for a long time, kept records about daily cost, usage and lowest temperature where I live. These are my results, so far, for this year. Where I live (Eastern Region),the temperatures in February were much higher than normal.

The differences in temperature are quite startling!!

I was on a better fix last year too!
