Today I changed my D/D to £103 from £114 previously £123 right upto £195 3yrs ago & a lot of refunds over years totaling over £1000. Since getting a smart meter & monitoring our usage on the App we are very pleased. Much more control and now better educated on how we use/save energy which is beneficial to our budget but also the planet. Years ago we got smart plugs and bulbs free from SSE & OVO. They were really helpful, especially as I’m disabled & bedbound, they are worth there weight in gold I would like to get more. I’ve requested a refund, as our account  in a lot of Credit. Another benefit of Smart meter & App. I may use the money to get more plugs, bulbs and/or devices to assist me.

Anybody got any suggestions on helpful tips techie gadgets that assist around the home

Thanks

Chris

Hey @chrisablake

I can make a few suggestions around tech tips that assist around the house! Firstly if you could let us know if you’re on iOS (apple) or android?

Smart Thermostats: Currently I have the Hive thermostat, and for the most part, it’s been okay for my usage. My opinion on it is that it’s not the most accurate in terms of temperature control, but if you’re bedbound, then it would offer you more value and control over your heating and associated costs. They’re relatively easy to install, and most central heating engineers also offer installation.

We offer the Tado smart thermostat, which you can read more about here - Smart thermostat

Smart lighting: My tip is to stick to one brand if you can, as having more than one brand means having several apps to control your lights. For smart lighting, you should check out Govee, as they look to do smart lights for every occasion, and you might find one that appeals to your circumstances. You can also buy smart bulbs themselves, and plenty of companies offer just the bulbs from Govee, Philips, Ikea, etc!

Hopefully, this helps. and if I can think of anything else, I’ll come back and update the thread.

Thanks for those suggestion.

I have a pretty good control for my boiler, it’s only 4 yrs old and pretty up-to date the portable control pad has y uh talks to the boiler controls upstairs, the boiler is A+ rated and had no issues since the day it was installed.  I can have heating on a timed setting or I can adjust easily. It works perfectly well for my situation. I also have two smart bulbs I operate from my phone. They are the most khelpful tech for my situation. I can also operate with Alexa.
I’m not using Alexa atm, as turned off for a room reshuffle, so my hospital style bed could be installed, I haven’t yet plugged it in again. We live in an older property and not enough plugs, we’ve had additional added over the yrs in different parts of house, as we’ve had work done. I’ll definitely look at cost of more smart bulbs they are my no1 gadget atm. The other item was radiator individual controls I would have even more control of the heat, I hesitate as I would have to get a heating engineer/contractor to install and it adds to the expense
