Hey @mariapazjohn,

Thanks to @Blastoise186 for the input! While we don't offer this option right now, we're always looking for new ways to support our customers with different opportunities. Who knows? It might be something we can provide in the future!

Morning all,

It’s always a shame to see anyone switch away from OVO, however we all need to do what’s best for us. If another supplier is offering something that suits you, be it lower prices or a different type of tariff that works best with the kit you have, then we’d always promote switching away if its in your best interests!

We’ll of course update everyone on the Forum if any new styles of tariff are going to become available. Thanks all for your input here.

Hi @mariapazjohn ,

I suspect it could be a while - the best bet would be to install a battery so you can juice it up during the day and let it flow out overnight.

I asked for this a while ago and not had a positive response. It’s the reason why I’ve decided to move to another supplier.

Sad to be going.

With that said… If it’s for EV Charging, you can just use Charge Anytime anyway and plug the vehicle in overnight - that would get the CA rates but you’d also be able to plug-in during the day too.

It's the reason I'm moving.

A year after asking Charge Anytime and Battery Boost will still not work together.

The rebating system is also flawed as it's very difficult to reconcile usage.

Most,  if not all,  providers have cheap overnight flat rates that are easy to understand. You can charge both battery and car and run the house during these times.

I've yet to hear from OVO why they use this odd rebating system.

Billing is so complicated that I have lost confidence in the accuracy of my bills, They don’t tie up with ne numbers in the app.

The reason for the rebate system is because CA is Type of Use meaning data crunching MUST take place after the fact to identify eligible usage. It cannot be done in real-time or via meter readings alone - we’ve already been there, done that and gotten the t-shirt with RTS Meters.

The new OVO Charge app does a better job of it though.

If other (all?) providers can manage it,  why not OVO. The Smart meter data is the same.

It is very difficult to check the accuracy of the rebate. I gave up after a couple of tries and I have 30 second usage reports from my system straight into Excel!

How about CA and Battery Boost working together?

Hardly anyone else is doing Type of Use in this way IIRC.

I don’t have any information regarding future interoperability at this time.

It will always be the way that different energy suppliers will offer different tariffs that suit particular customers with their own selection of tech. We're in a period of rapidly changing energy generation with renewables making their appearance in large quantities and the difficulties and opportunities this offers. Customers gravitate to the tarrifs that suit them the best with their individual lifestyles and tech and it is up to the energy suppliers to evolve their tariffs to keep them relevant. Trust me when I say that there is a lot is going on in the background to evolve tariffs (not just in OVO but other suppliers) but first and foremost is security of supply. I don't think there is a huge amount of churn in the industry which is causing concern for any supplier. At the moment EV owners are very much in the minority but it will become very important later on.

From a personal perspective I was a long term OVO customer and they gave me very good service for a decade but having got an EV and then we went through the huge upheaval of the energy crisis I became aware of another tariff that was better aligned to my personal circumstances so I moved. That will always be the case.
