One big difference is you have your main heating source in those actual electricity figures.

With the wood with @Firedog and the mains gas with me, the graphs would start to look similar i suspect

I might just do a cost comparison of wood v. gas v. electricity as heating fuels, just in case anyone’s wondering. Trouble is, I can only get within about an order of magnitude for the cost/kWh delivered for my stove. It’s somewhere in the range 5 - 15p. Electric heating would cost me 46p/kWh on my current tariff, but E7 would bring that down considerably, perhaps to something like 30p - two or three times the price for half the comfort.

Ours waa just a bit under the ofgem typical domestic consumption value, so an interesting one to choose.

Let’s get back on track, shall we? This thread started with an appeal for figures showing the percentage of annual energy consumption for each month, to make it possible to compare one household’s performance with everyone else’s. I retrieved two possible sources:

  • OVO’s own graphic Direct Debit calculator, which shows the variation in expected usage over the year.
  • Government statistics showing domestic energy consumption by month.

While broadly similar, there are significant differences, like which month usually has the lowest usage, or the highest. Still, it is possible to say that  you can expect to use most electricity in December, January and February and least in June, July and August. Surprise surprise!

On the contrary, I think this has been on track. Ovo data can illustrate a household’s percentage use against various averages or totals over a given time period, but can that actually show ‘if there’s a problem’ ? Aren’t there too many variables ? Eg comparing Jeff’s and my data. Also does OVO have data on our house sizes ?

What a fantastic thread, brilliant analysis done by @Firedog, and brilliant visualisation of that data.

An interesting final point by @juliamc: can this insight be used to justify any concern or action?

Still, this is definitely a valid idea and we already have a prototype demo to refer to. I’ll change the status of this so it lands on the desk of our product team.
