In the reading history, please can you also include the difference since last month in the list to save us using calculators.

Eg:

Date - reading - diff - type

6/3/23  12345       123.   manual

Saves a lot of hassle when quick looking to see the amount of energy used since reading. Not hard to do I believe.

Thanks

Sounds like this feature already exists. :)

In the reading history it shows the actual numbers in a list. That one extra column would be better to see actual numbers. Just needs that one more column. Better that the visual

... the difference since last month in the list to save us using calculators.

The differences from the beginning of the billing period are shown on the Billing history page.

The beauty of the readings page is that it shows the raw data on which all else depends, and I should hate to see it polluted it with derived data.

You’d like to see the difference from last month; what about those who deal in quarterly figures? Or those who are interested in annual consumption? Or perhaps consumption since the beginning of the year? There’s also the fact that months vary in length; the difference 6 Jan - 6 Feb (31 days) will even with constant daily usage be comparatively higher than that for 6 Feb - 6 Mar (28 days). And don’t forget the eternal question: is the period 6 Jan - 6 Feb 31 days or 30 or 32? I.e. do you include the end points or just one of them or neither of them?

I’d stick to my calculator if I were you 😉

It's like one column. Never mind 🤐

I think it’s a good idea @jabbamp It would make the meter readings screen immediately clear to interpret. It just needs to show the difference between one reading and the next. Simple. It might even encourage people to submit more frequent meter readings which would improve the accuracy of their bills.

I have voted for it @jabbamp

I quite like it as a very quick visual to spot any strange readings on the readings page rather than flipping to the usage page or getting a calculator out.

Mine is a smart meter and it has a daily smart reading so i would see a figure in that third column every day.

You will get a variety of views on the forum 😊

Always interested to hear how people use the data ane and pages.

Do you have a smart meter?

My thoughts exactly. Thank you 😊👍

No. I'm ok with the meter I have at the moment. I was looking at the readings and wanted to see the difference from the previous for each one. I had to calculate each one rather than just see it quick. It seemed an obvious thing to be there.

Thank you 😊👍

Yep I’m marking this as a legitimate idea and will send it off to the team to review, @jabbamp - thanks for posting it!

@jabbamp OK, I leapt to a wrong conclusion again, sorry. You asked  “include the difference since last month in the list.” For those of us with smart meters, the meter readings page will normally show a reading for each day. For those with dual-rate meters, there are two a day.

I now see that you don’t have a smart meter, and that you presumably submit a reading once a month. That’s why my comments about which period’s usage to display probably didn’t make much sense to you, sorry.

In your situation, it would of course be helpful to see the month’s usage (or the difference from the previous reading) on that page. However, before we rush off to recommend this to the site’s designers, we should remember that more than 55% of household meters in GB are now smart, so they may think twice before spending time and effort on a feature to help a rapidly-dwindling minority of users.

As @Jeffus pointed out, you will get a variety of views on the forum 😊.

I understand. But it's just 1 derived column which in terms of development is a very small amount of SQL code. A developer could add it in much less than 10 minutes.
