Add charge percentage option. Eg. ‘add 30%’ - for all EVs in charge anytime app.

I’ve just switched from the other supplier that integrates with your home EV charger.

The way it worked with them was that you told the app which car you had and it looked up the battery capacity and other details from a database. Then when you set your charging schedule you selected how much charge to add via a drop down.

So you could look at what charge you had left, say 20%, then select, ‘add 60% by 5am’ - and it would work out how much energy 60% of that capacity was (just maths, no actual feedback required from the car) and add that much charge. Meaning that you had 80% charge in the morning. It worked very well and was accurate to -/+ 1%.

My vehicle has no option to stop charging at a certain limit, but in the manual it says to only charge to 80% for day to day use to avoid battery degradation. With charge anytime I have no option but to charge to 100%. I found this very disappointing when I switched as I assumed it would be the same as the other supplier and when looking into this before switching I saw reviews and videos suggesting that you could select a level of charge to stop at. When I set up the charge anytime app and it asked me for the usable capacity of my EV battery I assumed this feature is what that information was required for. Sadly not though.

I’m currently trying to work out if there’s a workaround for this that doesn’t involve me getting up in the middle of the night to check my charge status.

This feature is a very obvious and I assume relatively simple thing to add and would improve the service massively.

Hey @Pipefish

Great idea! I’ve opened it up for votes, it’s good to see others have already upvoted your idea.

The team are always looking for feedback so I’m sure it’s also something they’ll be happy to take on-board. Thanks for sharing such a detailed idea on the community!

Even as an EV owner who doesn't use CA I set my car's timer to add a fixed 25% charge overnight based on the fact that my average mileage means I use 20% charge every day. Over the four years I've been driving an EV it is by far the simplest way to charge the car without over thinking it.

It sounds crude but I've put a very thin strip of black tape where the battery symbol is on the screen at the 70% level and if it gets below that then it gets plugged in that night. The maximum it can go to then is then 95% and that's fine. Most often its around 60% and then it goes up to 85%. If it comes back very low then I can put it on a one-off longer charge then it's back to the regular 25% charge.

just out of interest what vehicle is this? sounds like if the manufacture recommends only charging to 80% they should really offer the option to limit to 80% within the vehicle.

Can’t offer any kind of suggestion but just curious.

Thanks for the suggestion - my car (corsa-e) has the same issue that a maximum charge can’t be set. I’d seen how the octopus app worked and assumed that the OVO app would offer something similar.

If OVO can’t integrate it into the app, I’m definitely going to have to move suppliers as charging to 100% all the time is not something that I want to do.

I agree that it’s something that the car manufacturer should implement, but it should also be possible to incorporate this into the OVO app and I can’t change my car as easily as I can change my energy supplier!

Hi @seders I’ve already voted for this earlier in the thread - I’ve got an e208 (same Stellantis platform as your Corsa e) and have exactly the same issue.

In desperation I’ve taken to charging during the day, as the only practical way to get control of the situation.

I work out approximately how many kWh I need to add to the car (hard to do, as the e208 doesn’t tell me the SoC percentage at all), divide by 7 (the typical overall charge rate I get from my charger) to get a likely charging duration needed, and then set a suitable Ready By time in the Charge Anytime app to ‘force’ it to charge immediately at Charge Anytime rates. I then set a timer on my phone to remind me to go and stop the charge manually.

Quite apart from the fact that this isn’t really how Charge Anytime should be used, it’s hardly an elegant solution!

Please OVO, add this feature for us - there are lots of Stellantis EVs out there that would benefit out there!

thanks @MikeyB  - that did work, if not elegant! Though I assume that I can’t guarantee that Charge Anytime will be available all the time?

@Abby_OVO - this feature should make environmental/financial sense as well as OVO would know exactly how much energy it was going to have to deliver instead of ‘up to a whole battery full’. Having smaller, well defined amounts of energy would mean that delivery could be more accurately scheduled to coincide with green/cheap energy generation win:win! (It would also make me much happier :-) )

Hi @seders no, it's not guaranteed. But if you give Charge Anytime a reasonably challenging, but do-able, 'Ready By' time, I've generally found it just takes a deep breath and give it a good try for you.

And I wholeheartedly agree with your other comments to @Abby_OVO !
