Hello, I have just had grid tied solar panels fitted, I believe I have to inform ovo within 28 days, is that correct

Hi @W Sharp , it’s useful to let them know but there’s no obligation as such. It will help in noting a reduction in your usage but still may take a while for the system to catch up. Keep an eye on your meter readings and make sure you provide regular manual readings if yours drop out (again assuming that you have a smart meter).

Depending on how you want to go forward with (presumably) SEG, then there’s an application process but from what we’ve seen, you might be better off getting that through another licensee. You don’t have to have your export with the same supplier as your provider.
What system did you get installed? There’s a number on here with Solis, SolaX and others. Mine has a LuxPower system coupled with storage batteries.

Check out this helpful topic all about Smart Export Guarantee (SEG):

Hi BP, Many thanks for the info, I’ll get in touch with my energy supplier. I have a smart meter, an Elster AM 110R which is supplied with a Fox Ess 4600 inverter with nine 340 watt solar panels, i am still conemplating whether to install storage batteries or not. the reason for installing solar panels is that I own an EV.

It will be interesting to know how you get on. There was another user recently who had either the same or a similar meter and they had problems with the metering after a solar install - this thread here

Looking at the manual for that meter it says that there was a potential set up where the meter didn’t note the direction of flow

So it will be worth double checking as you go

Hi BP,  I note that the person had three phase meter installed, I have a single phase supply also his meter is a different model to mine. I will closely monitor the readings.
