Question

We live in Cornwall and have just had our oil tank removed. Do we go with Air source heat pump? We live in a 5 bedroom bunglow, which is made from shutter concrete. We have double glazing and we be having new insulated roofs added

    Hi @Sallyab

Thanks for posting your question on here because it is one we get from time to time and one we can’t really answer. The reason is there are so many factors that are individual to you regarding not only your property but also your lifestyle.

My recommendation is to always invite a qualified heating engineer to assess your property and what you want out of the heating and hot water as well. Search for: Home Energy Survey

Now, a survey may cost you money but a good heating engineer will save you more than you pay for a survey. The survey cost (if there is one) is once but the money saved (or possibly lost by making a decision without advice) is every month. You also need to consider what tariff is best for what ever decision you go with.

There are also some blogs on here from people who have had an ASHP installed and I’ll give a shout out to @BPLightlog who produced an excellent blog on the subject from personal experience. Reading it will give you familiarity with  the term used and how the process works.

If you wish please come back on here with any further questions you may have, possibly arising from a survey or two or after reading the blog. We have volunteers on here who have different experiences of heat pumps (I have an Air to Air heat pump) and their combined knowledge and wisdom is awesome and free of charge.
