Unusual gas main connection pipe size?

 Two engineers have visited my house so far to fit a smart gas meter but they dont have the correct  fitting, nor an adaptor, to connect to the gas tap. It doesnt seem there is anything we can do about it!
The size of the short copper pipe coming out of the flange and going into the lead pipe is 0.795 inch / 20mm outside diameter. 

The house is 1962 but the gas meter is 1994. I’m suprised that it is so unusal. Anyone know about gas pipe sizes?

Sorry, the fitting on the ecv into the reg itself is an approved fitting, I should have been more clear. There is no current approved fitting to use on these.

I’m sorry to hear about the failed attempts to fit a gas smart meter. I’m not an expert in this field but I wonder if @Lukepeniket_OVO can assist here?

Can you post a wider picture @paulmmmm ? It looks like the connection already has an odd adapter fitted

Hello, this looks like a Legacy ECV known as a conical ECV. There's no approved gas industry fitting for these types of ECV so all you can try and do is to get the gas transporter to change the hole ecv. 

 

Is this a 3 storey house?

    Its a two storey house from mid 60’s.

    I think the engineer did say it was a conical ECV.
    If there are no approved fittings is it even safe!

    How do I go about asking the supplier to change the ECV?

    It’s the gas transporter who needs to change it

        Stalemate!

        So this is the response from Cadent Gas. Perhaps not unexpected.

        Good Afternoon,
         
        “Thank you for your enquiry.
         
        Providing your ECV is operable and functioning properly, there is no requirement for it to be replaced.
         
        Engineers should have the appropriate adaptors to allow them to make connections to these type of ecvs.
         
        If the ECV is faulty, you can contact our emergency line on 0800 111999 who can arrange for an engineer to attend.

        Ovo engineers have said they dont have an adaptor so the only answer maybe is to switch to a supplier who does have the right parts. I wonder then if the elecricity smart meter will stop working!

        Luke is highly experienced - if he can’t get the parts, chances are no other supplier can either (as in, they might not exist at all).
