Question

The heater pump. Can't change the speed of the pump flow. FTC 7. Ecodan.

I have the pump: “30-007A IMP Pumps 10 -25-130” and Ecodan FTC 7. I am trying to change the flow speed in service menu, but the pump does not change speed.

Any idea, what it can be, because in spring I was able to change the flow speed?

The Ecodan using RC wireless temperature controller.

This connection is from the pump

P.S. I also learned that the heating with pump does not turn off automatically. When I set up heating schedule everything turn on and off according to the times set.

Hi @VicByron

Just a request for information at the moment. I'll tag @juliamc to see if she is around but also ask why you would want to change the flow speed. I'm asking out of total ignorance because I don't have an ASHP but I thought these units take care of everything themselves. Thanks

Reducing my yearly fossil fuel usage with an EV (-900 litres petrol saving about £950/year), A2AHP (-8,700 kWh gas, cost neutral) and Timed Immersion heater (-1,500 kWh gas, £20/year more expensive but reducing as the gas price goes up)

I want to lower the flow speed because: 1) The pump is very loud and is very disturbing; 2) The speed is excessive for our small house; 3) The pump at max flow speed uses 90-120 watt in hour, but in normal flow speed, which is acceptable for us that I had before in spring, was only 30 watt in our, difference £160 in year average. Make sense, yes?

I totally agree with what you have said.

For my old gas central heating system, as an experiment, I changed the pump speed from the max value it was installed at to the minimum. It made no difference, that I could see, it was now silent and it used a lot less power. On my new GCH system the pump speed is fixed.

However, the COP of an ASHP is dependent on the pump speed and, as Julia has mentioned, the Daikin modulates it's pump speed according to circumstances. I don't know if your pump is running too fast and can be slowed down or it keeps the pump running at high speed to keep the COP high and the refrigeration compressor costs down. The only thing I do know is that the pump speed is much more critcal for an ASHP than a gas boiler.

It sounds like you may need to get advice from a heating engineer (the installer may know) or the manufacturer or go on a forum for the Ecodan to see if anyone has any information on that subject.

I can only say what my HP does (it’s a Daikin split system). The pump to send the system water through my radiators  is inside the indoor unit and it’s speed is controlled by the HP itself. It starts up fairly fast about 22litre/min, then slows down to 7 litre/min. I can’t change the speed myself.
(Hope I’ve got those figures and units correct - I can check later if they look wrong).

As the indoor unit is in the loft I never hear the pump unless I’m up there but it’s barely audible. Maybe your pump is on the way out ?

I would be happy to have your Daykin system! My system is Ecodan: Preset Cylinder with 2 pumps for DWH and heating pump and separate Ecodan control box.

It seems there is a video on YouTube that shows you how to change the speed.

Mitsubishi Electric Ecodan - How to change pump speeds on the Ecodan.

I hope that helps
