Night storage heaters

Have just bought a house with night storage heaters. To begin with I didn’t think they were working but this morning they were all just slightly warm despite being turned up to max. Is this usual (e.g. if they hadn’t been used for a long time)?

They're exactly the same as mine, left output dial should be on minimum all the time except to release extra stored heat as the day goes on, right hand dial is for input charging, adjustable up to maximum as the winter kicks in

      Thank you very much for this! I don’t know if the dampers are pre-set to open at a particular time, but a little heat comes out immediately I open them manually, which I actually need first thing in the morning at the moment!  So I will try closing them again once it has warmed up a bit and opening them in the evening if necessary.
