Mitsubishi ecodan ftc6

Hello,
I have an FTC6 system with a new PAR-WR51R remote controller. I set the room temperature to 20 degrees, but the actual temperature is 22 degrees.
How can I adjust the settings so that they match?

regards

Morning @Stane and welcome to the OVO Forum. I’ve added the heat pump badge to your profile so the community can see which kit you have.

I’ve been searching online and have found these instructions which explain how to go into the Ecodan settings and adjust the 4 degree offset. I’m wondering if you could adjust this by 2 degrees to get the result you want.

I don’t actually own a heat pump myself, so I’d like to call on our resident experts @Ecodanwarrior and @Peter E to see if they wouldn't mind sharing their thoughts on this (TIA).

Hi @Stane

Thanks for bringing your question on here. The first thing that occurred to me is Where are you measuring your room temperature?

The reason for asking is that most rooms have a temperature gradient between the radiators and the thermostat. You don't normally have a thermostat near a radiator. If you have another thermometer can you site it near the thermostat and measure what it is actually measuring? I can have a two degree difference across my lounge but I set the temperature to be comfortable where we spend most time.

In my 1980s house the thermostat was mounted on an outside wall (wrong!) which is slightly colder than  the average room temperature. As it was an older thermostat you could remove the dial, rotate it slightly, and replace it thus effectively calibrating it to the room temperature rather than the wall temperature.

The other thing is How accurate is the thermostat? It may have an error (1 or 2 degrees) and are you certain that the thermometer you are using to measure the room temperature is also accurate? A one degree error in both the thermostat and the measuring thermometer could account for what you are seeing.

Some systens are set up to operate with ‘weather compensation’ in that the HP heats the room according to the external temperature rather than just the indoor thermostat given that there is a relationship between the heating required and the difference between the internal and external temperatures. There will be a setting for that.

There are quite a few variables here and the actual absolute temperature may not be as important compared to whether you feel hot or cold in yourself because that depends on whether you have been doing exercise or not. I tend to set the temperature to what is comfortable rather than being concerned with the actual value.

Depending in which direction your room faces or if you have large south facing windows and patio door, sunshine coming into the room can cause the temperature gradient to reverse as well.

I'll leave it here so you can think about the points I've made but if there is temperature difference between the room and what the thermostat is set at then there may be something in the HP you can adjust to resolve that.

Do come back if you can't resolve the issue or if you have any further observations or if you found a way to resolve it. If you've found the answer that fixes it we'll mark it as the Best Answer.

Reducing my yearly fossil fuel usage with an EV (-900 litres petrol saving about £950/year), A2AHP (-8,700 kWh gas, cost neutral) and Timed Immersion heater (-1,500 kWh gas, £20/year more expensive but reducing as the gas price goes up)
