House Batteries top at low night rate

Hi, A neighbour of ours has had household batteries installed. These are not linked to solar panels but tops them up on the lower rate (similar if not EV rate) and then runs the household off the battery during the day. Any excess can be charged back to the grid. Does anyone else do this through OVO? They are with a sea creature.

That’s exactly what I did, with the sea creature! We have an EV so are able to get their Intelligent Go tariff. We were charging the battery (13.5 kW GivEnergy all in one) in the cheap overnight hours as well as the car if it needed it. As we also have a heat pump we’re running that from the GivEnergy. It lasted most of the day in spring and autumn but in the winter the heating used those 13.5 before the evenings so we imported from the grid then.

We now have solar so the battery is topped up from that during the sunny hours.
There are now various schemes that take over the battery to charge and discharge and give a cash payback, but I haven’t investigated them yet. Axle Energy being one worth a look.
