FIT Tariff April Increase Query

I have just received my FIT Statement for the March to June quarter. I see that the tariff has been increased by 3.45% from April 1st in line with CPI. I believe that the increase should be in line with RPI that was 4.5%. What has happened? Any thoughts please?

Hi again @Judesman.

I’m just linking here a publication from Ofgem:

This document sets out the tariff rates for the Feed-in Tariff scheme. Relevant tariffs have been adjusted by RPI of 3.5 percent, effective from 1 April 2025

https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/data/feed-tariff-fit-tariff-table-1-april-2025#:~:text=This%20document%20sets%20out%20the,effective%20from%201%20April%202025%2E

Hopefully this explains things.

Morning @Judesman, I hope you’re well.

I’ve asked the question internally, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I’ve got a response 😊.

Cheers!

Thank you very much. RPI at April 2025 was 4.5%. Do we know which month’s RPI figure they use? Thank you for your help.

I can’t see a date for the determination but this was the advice for the increase in rates which was dated January 2025

It looks like there’s swings and roundabouts on this as in 2024, February rpi was 4.5% (which was used) whereas April was 3.3%

Difficult one to pin down isn't  it?

From what I can find from various places I think that it's the 12 month RPI for the previous calendar year. However I can't find anything that actually says that in a quotable form.

So this years increase would be based on the RPI for 2024.

Depending where you look the 12 month RPI at the end of Dec 2024 was 3.5% or 3.7% (I think it got revised up) so that 3.5% fits with the Ofgem figure that Ben quoted above.

That would also tend to make sense of the announcement of the new rate being made in January. (So 3.5% before the rate was later revised).

Thank you for all your replies and research, much appreciated. It looks like RPI 3.5% as at December 2024 applied in April 25. The uprating of pensions and benefits is widely publicised as being from the September inflation figures so, perhaps OFGEM could be a little more open about how they calculate the the FIT increases.
