When on Economy 7 or Economy 10, meter ALWAYS records all usage at whatever the current rate is at the time of consumption, regardless of port/terminal.

However, when correctly configured it will by default disconnect port 5 during peak hours anyway so you wouldn’t clock any usage on it unless you override with Boost Mode.

thanks for that , so you are saying that during the off peak periods ALL the current consumed by the site is at the off peak rate whether its the port 1 connection or the port 5 connection  it is only port 5 which is not charged unless i use the boost and then ALL the current is charged at peak rate until the boost finishes and the port 5 terminal disconnects. Correct?

We don’t know what precise model of meter you have installed, but most multi-rate meters will only have one tariff switching table, giving the times when usage is recorded on the two registers  peak and offpeak. This means that all consumption - by storage heaters, tumble dryers or EV chargers, for example - recorded during an offpeak period will be billed at the offpeak rate. 

The meter’s registers record energy being consumed on its way in (through port 1), so to speak, and isn’t interested in where it goes on its way out (via constant port 4 or switched port 5).  

Please check precisely what time the tariff changes from peak to offpeak and vice versa. This won’t be at the advertised times, but a few (up to 30) minutes later. It can get expensive if you assume that running the tumble dryer from 13:00 will save a bit of money if the offpeak rate doesn’t in fact start until 13:15. Please post back if this doesn’t make sense!
