DNO approval confirmation for SEG

I’m trying to arrange the SEG with OVO, but am caught in the middle between them and my solar panel installer.

OVO requested confirmation of DNO approval. I sent them the DNO approval my installer had supplied. OVO says this is missing information, as there is no stamp on it saying approved. I went back to my installer who said the form is correct, it shows the agreed export amount (4.6KW) and DNO don’t stamp the forms any more.

I sent that response to OVO who replied again saying the information is missing, and there needs to be a letter or email from DNO (UK Power Networks) saying the application is approved. Sent that response to my installer, who replied again, attaching the same DNO G99 application form, highlighting the agreed export amount, and saying that is the DNO approval.

Which one is right?

Thanks - Victoria M.

Hi @VictoriaM , although my installation is several years old now I thought that a document to say that your DNO had seen and approved was still required.
The MCS site might be helpful

One of the installation companies has this on their FAQ’s

Hey @VictoriaM

Sorry to hear about this.

I’ve asked the team to clarify this for us just to ensure the correct process for you. It may still be the same process as it was when BPLightlog done theirs, but I’ll pop back on here when I hear back from the team to let you know exactly what should happen.

Hey @VictoriaM

I’ve spoken with the team in charge of this and they’ve confirmed that there does need to be either a stamp on the form from the DNO (UK Power Network) or an email/letter response to the installer to confirm that they approve the application. They have checked your email address against the records to check the documents you’ve sent already and these don’t have the required approval from the DNO.

They recommend getting back in touch with the installer who should have had at the very least, an email or letter response to confirm that the application was accepted.

Hey @Natalie1

I reached out to the team to get some help with your query as well, and they’ve sent yourself an email to gain some more details from you, hopefully they can get everything processed for you soon from this.

Thanks Abbey. Unfortunately this is the problem. I’ve asked my installer this exact request, and they resend the DNO application form with the agreed export amount and say that UK power networks don’t stamp it any more. I’ve directly forwarded your request to them, and directly forwarded their response to you, and neither side is budging.
I know it was DNO approved as the export limit was lifted.

Hi @VictoriaM , just trying to break the impasse, perhaps you could approach your DNO directly. They would have full details and their reply would be what you need.
Your installer should have this but you can find your DNO here

I have just had solar pv panels. How do I apply for the G98/99 DNO form.

Do I get it from OVO

You get it from the DNO. See this article: Obtaining import and export permissions from your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) | The OVO Forum (ovoenergy.com). It’s a couple of years old, so take note of the caveat at the top. Your DNO should be able to advise; some of them allow online applications.

Who installed your panels @Craig Hellewell ?

The installer normally would organise the approval with the DNO as above a certain level, the approval is required before installation and connection to the grid
