Question

creative smart meter?

I’ve been away for ten days and turned my system off. On return I see the smart meter has recorded normal usage for two days of my absence then gone back to minimal. Does it feel obliged to top up ovo earnings?

I’ve just been away for ten days and turned my heating/hot water off. Suddenly two days before I got back and turned the system on again I’m shown as having used as much gas and electricity as I do when I’m at home. How come? It’s been mild so no weather responses kicking in.

Probably an estimate.

Sometimes if the collected smart meter readings show a full day of no use - as could happen if you have turned everything off - the “live billing” system can assume that the meter hasn't connected to DCC to send readings, and so it puts in an estimated usage for that day.

Your actual billing uses the meter readings at the start and end of your billing period each month; so some missing reads or odd estimates in the middle of the billing period will be rectified and will not be a problem.

Sorry to waste your time. As a first time user it was hard to work out where to post my question. The site is noisy and somewhat off putting. I think next time I’ll dodge reproofs and wait for ovo to answer the phone.

I've answered in the other thread that you started.

PS.There is no need to ask the same question in two places, one is enough for the staff and forum regulars to pick a question up and reply.

Morning @Alisonbrimelow and a warm welcome to the OVO Forum.

This is definitely something the community can help out with, but we’ll need to get some more info from you. Just to confirm - smart meters send your readings automatically, and it’s incredibly rare they clock usage incorrectly.

We’ll need to know:

Are you referring to gas or electricity?

Where have you seen this - was it on the In Home Display (IHD), or on the ‘Usage’ pages of your online account / app?

If it was on the ‘Usage’ pages, please could you send a screenshot of what you’re looking at?

If you send any screenshots of the online account / app, please ensure that any personal details aren’t included, eg your account number.

Once we have this info we’ll be able to help further.
