Warm Home Discount 2026-27

It's that time of year again.

The qualifying date for this year's WHD scheme was 23 August 2026.
If you were eligible on that date, and your energy supplier is part of the scheme (most are), the you will get the WHD this year.

EDIT 19th October -
The scheme is now ‘Live’ and the telephone helpline has opened. (0800 030 9322).

There are once again new eligibility rules for those in Scotland which mean that more people in Scotland will qualify automatically for the Core Group without having to make an application.

The new eligibility rules for Scotland are set out here: https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme/if-you-live-in-scotland

If you live in England or Wales, you don't need to apply for the Warm Home Discount, if you are eligible, you will be contacted by the UK Government between October and January.

If you are an OVO customer, live in Scotland, and are not in this years new core group, then you should register with this form.

If you are with a different energy supplier, live in Scotland, and are not in this years new core group, then check if your own supplier has opened registration yet.

A word of caution: the Government page says for customers in England and Wales “You’ll usually get the discount automatically if you’re eligible.“ For the past two years I’ve been one of the unusual ones, having to call the helpline to ‘confirm my details’. I wasn’t told exactly why (I’d not had to before ...), but I gathered from the interrogation I underwent that there was a mismatch between the name HMG has for me and the one held by OVO. This is a big no-no, resulting from my normally using a different first name; when the WHD scheme run OVO’s customer database against DWP’s, a red flag is raised.

The interview took about 20 minutes and was conducted by really pleasant and helpful agents. I passed muster once they’d established that I was who I claimed to be, and the discount dropped into my account soon afterwards.

Call the helpline if you’re instructed to - it’s a freephone and they don’t bite!
