Question

Gas meter box

Hi all, 

My disabled mother has been told by ovo that she needs her gas meter boxed. Do ovo pay for this or if they don’t how much would it be?

Hope someone can help, thank you

OVO would not normally provide a new gas meter box, OVO are responsible for the meter itself but the enclosure is the property of the housholder or landlord.

Is this her own property or a rental?

Presumably this is for outside, either mounted on the wall or semi concealed (half burried).

Is this to replace an old box that has been broken? If so then what type was it?

(It's  more often the wall mounted ones that get damaged/vandalised).

Sorry for so many questions.

If you could post a photo or two of what is there at the moment we could give better advice about what you will need.

Prices for meter boxes start at about £40 depending on what you need/want  - but don't forget to factor in that you may need to pay someone to fit it.  (Often it's a DIY job to replace the enclosure, but in some particularly awkward cases then it may even need to be a Gas Safe Registered engineer).

    Thanks for the quick response!

    Its her property. This is an outside meter in the front garden. Its an old box but working fine. I’ve bought the right size box for it but yes, i think a Corgi registered fitter will need to put the box on due to the piping at the top.

    I’m glad to see Nukecad stopped by with some helpful advice on this one. 

     

    I’m also glad to hear you’ve already got that box and a registered engineer will be able to fit that - it can be done yourself in most cases but if there’s some pipework you’re unsure of it sounds like having them fit it will be for the best. Hopefully that goes smoothly but do let us know how that goes.
