I keep getting texts saying I owe money - I have never had an account with ovo. Are they genuine?

I’ve done some digging and can confirm that the number mentioned within that text is indeed a telephone number linked to our Customer Support team who specialise in debt support.

However, to be on the safe side, I’d follow ​@Blastoise186’s advice and contact our team directly on the number provided above (0800 069 9831) to verify these texts are indeed coming from the team. Also, you can query any possible account issues they may be reaching out to you about at the same time.

They do look genuine to me. Please call OVO Collections on 0800 069 9831 to resolve this one - they’re best placed to look into it.

I’ve looked up that number on “who is…” and found these comments so yes it does seem to be dodgy:

I do not like the look of that URL link at all.

“paybylink.ovoenergy,com” does not look genuine to me. 
I would NOT click on that link.

Websearch AI agrees, although AI’s can get things wrong:

Thanks all - I’ve tried calling that number but it’s just silent. I tried the main support line but they were very confused and kept asking me for an account number and I was like “I don’t have an account!!!!” So still struggling!

I've received a text today (screenshot attached) claiming I owe money, and that the last email I received would explain more. I haven't received any emails.

Any advice on how to follow up? Or if this is genuine.

If you’ve not done so already, I’d definitely recommend getting in touch with the team.

 

Just to check, have you ever received emails from OVO? If you’re not receiving the emails, or can’t view that last email they’ve mentioned, it’ll be worth double checking the email address is correct on the account, if it needs updated, the Support Team will be able to assist with that:
