Why does Solar PV make a difference for compatibility with Charge Anytime?

I’m a non-OVO user considering using the Charge Anytime tariff.

If I carry out the compatibility checks for my EV and charger for Charge Anytime it says I am OK - provided I lie about my solar panels and say I don’t have any.
If I click the radio button for ‘yes, I have solar panels’ (the truth) and re-submit, it tells me I’m NOT compatible for Charge Anytime.

What is the reason for this? I haven’t found anywhere that explains this restriction.

Since this original post, Charge Anytime is much more compatible with Charge Anytime, thanks to the addition of new compatible chargers to the list. You just need to have a compatible charger and you’ll be able to make use of both your EV charging and solar. The Solar / Charge Anytime compatible chargers are listed here.

 

You can find a list of all compatible vehicles, chargers and any in a beta phase here and can choose a new charger through OVO here.

 

Hi @Walter Eagle , at present the main ‘system’ cannot distinguish if power is coming from the grid or solar PV which is why it tells you it’s not compatible. If you don’t tell the system about solar, you could end up paying for that as a source. 


You could use the Indra charger which has its own monitor for solar PV and is compatible with Charge Anytime.

    a very disappointed ring response from the charge anytime and a warning to all

     

    Ovo are really sorry that they didn’t pick up that I had a Tesla charger at the time of solar survey and installation and are  suggesting that I uninstall charge anytime and use the free solar 

     

    I am still trying to work out whether this is a joke as I use the car for work and not at home during peak solar hours.

     

    I am now requesting Ovo uninstall the solar system and battery so that I can use charge anytime 

    I have been in hold for 20minutes trying to talk to the charge anytime team ( no number in the queue or call back option) could they have gone home ???)

     

    I am a very disgruntled customer . The whole Ovo  solar journey has bow been very  poor and counterintuitive
