Thanks ,I'm hoping other Charge anytime users can confirm this please?

My overriding though is we all need to be careful.

The Anytime tariff will continue to be cheap while the majority of users normally give the system as long as possible to charge during the cheapest times of day and night. It is also better for the environment.

I wouldn't recommend this fast charging during the day becomes the norm for lots of people, else everyone will ultimately suffer on the Anytime plan. Peak time electricity costs can be eye wateringly expensive for OVO to purchase. There needs to be a level of personal responsibility with these sort of tariff.

Yes agree, very well said.

Having another think about this, I highly doubt my driving pattern would require daytime charging.

I think originally I was getting worried about charging.

I think the odd time day time fast charging is fine, that is the great advantage of the tariff.

Good luck with your EV !

I just joined OVO and I had assumed it would work overnight, but seeing this thread I decided to try to recharge my PHEV after I had been out to the shops this morning - set the time to 90 minutes ahead and it worked - Went out again in afternoon and reset for tomorrow morning at 7.00 as I had been doing before.

I’m using a 13amp socket so it takes a while but my PHEV only stores 9KWh so for my local journeys it works fine.

Our son invited us round tonight so I reset it to 19:00 and now it is charging again, all at 7p rate.

I can’t see any reason I need to use “boost” ever, but I guess if I had an EV rather than PHEV it might be neccessary.  I’m going to save more than I thought as I had only thought I would get I charge per 24 hours, but I’ll likely get three if I go out a couple of times.  Just need to remember to reset the time on the app.

Hi Everyone, I am going to purchase an EV in the coming weeks. I am looking at costs and savings for an EV and am a member of OVO.

They are promoting Charge Anytime for 7 Pence per KWH but reading the terms it seems to me that it is anything but charge anytime. it seems that it is only the 7P rate on scheduled charging times which I guess is overnight. I feel that the name charge anytime is deliberately misleading if that is the case.

Can someone help me with two questions I have:

  1.  Is the 7P rate only applicable on the scheduled hours?
  2. What are the scheduled hours?
  3. What would you recommend for charger units compatible with OVO and the Hyundai Inster

Thankyou for any help

Hey @myfanwy1uk !

I can answer those for you.

The 7p rate is available for ALL EV Charging 24/7/365 provided you run it via Smart Charging - it’s not purely an overnight thing. It also won’t affect your main tariff rates for anything else either. You just set the Ready By time in the app, plug-in and let the system do the rest. Depending on the times you specify, charging may take place during the day or night with the aim of getting a full charge by the target time.

Given you’ve got a Hyundai, you’ll want to hit the Charger route for best results.

As for Chargers… You can go for Indra, Hypervolt, Andersen (not the Quartz though!), EVEC or Nexblue. Out of those ones, Hypervolt tends to be a popular choice and we’ve seen it work well based on what folks say here on the Forum.

Let me know if you’ve got more questions!

See my reply above - in the 18 months I’ve been using Charge Anytime I’ve only once not got my PHEV charged when I wanted to - I regularly change the end time and always have the minimum set to 0%.

Hi,

Is my understanding correct that Charge Anytime should schedule charging during the greenest times on the grid? I ask because nearly every hour today (30th Aug) was marked in OVO‘s Energy app as ‚Greenest Time‘ yet Charge Anytime didn‘t charge the car and kept moving the ‚Charging next after‘ times further and further into the future even though the whole day was indicated as ‚Greenest Time‘?

Many thanks

Anthony

Hi @Windled ,

Generally the system will go for the greenest slots, but it may not always use all of them - it may have found a better slot later in the day.

@Windled welcome to the OVO Forum, and thank you for your post. I’ve added the EV badge to your Forum account so that other members can recognise you 😁.

I’ve taken this excerpt from our Charge Anytime FAQs. You can view the full FAQ list here.

So you can get the 7p a kWh rate, the Charge Anytime app only lets your EV charge during the cheapest and greenest times. This often means that your charging will start sometime after you plug in. You’ll always get a notification letting you know the scheduled start time. If your plans change, and you need your EV to start charging immediately, you can press the Urgent Charge button in the app – you'll be charged your standard home electricity rate for this function.
